Haley going to run conservative Offense

Matt Cassel - QB - Chiefs

Chiefs HC Todd Haley wants to run "a meat and potatoes offense" in 2011.
That's good news for Jamaal Charles' fantasy stock, and bad news for Matt Cassel's. Former OC Charlie Weis reportedly left because he wanted "to use a lot of shotgun and spread formations while jazzing up the offense," while Haley wanted to remain conservative. After it became public that Weis was leaving last season, Cassel posted a 0:5 TD-to-INT ratio in two games.

Personally, I prefer Asamoah to Lilja. He's younger but more importantly, bigger and stronger.

Lilja wore down and became less effective as the season progressed, especially the last few games.

I'm all for giving Richardson another year to develop at right tackle but with that said, I wouldn't be surprised if they draft someone to replace him and move him to swing tackle.

Ok let me ask something. The tight lipped, let no information out, "New England West" Pioli camp has released that they will be running a meat and potatoes type offense next year.

And you all believe it? Does that sound Fishy at all to any of you at all? Especially a couple of months before draft?

Well this would almost assure us an Offensive line pick in the draft. Probably a Tackle or Center. Well heck, if I am a team owner and see this I better pick up my tackle or center first before the Chiefs grab him. I can let that OLB or WR go since there is going to be a run on meat and potatoes in the first round.

How many years do we go by and we have to remind ourselves that everything is smoke and mirrors before the draft.

The only way that Haley is running meat and potatoes is if the NFLPA is locked out and they have to get scrubs. He will have to run Meat and Potatoes for Shane Falco to get with the program. Then Mark Castle will return for the playoff game and all the players will quit on him and Falco will be triumphant and the Chiefs will win a playoff game!!!

I dont know why people keep harping about Lilja. He did a good job last year. He was hardly the weakest link.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

it appears that the coach really doesn't have much faith in his QB. He did not run conservative in Arizona with Warner as his QB. We will see mundane until Cassel is no longer a Chief.

That or the National Football Post is just pulling crap out of its underwear and seeing who'll accept it blindly.

I love how people will snap up anything that talks bad about the Chiefs organization, whether it's the coaches, players, owner, GM, whatever. BUT, if someone posts good news, they're just homers.

How about we wait and see what the coach will do with 2011, provided there IS a 2011 before panicking?

That source told Dan Pompei and I'm guessing that he will never reveal who said it. Whether the source is right or wrong is debatable but Pompei has an excellent reputation.

So, you truly believe that coaches and players don't share information with their friends, especially their friends around the league?

The reason why there's little information coming out of Arrowhead is because players and coaches fear for their jobs and are all too familiar with Pioli and Haley's policies regarding the media.

That doesn't mean that there are not people outside the organization that don't know what's happening inside the organization.

I don't mind conservative as long as you have the OL that can block for it. Weigman at C spells out a big NO for the power running game.

They interviewed centers and tackles at the Senior Bowl and other outings. With Weigmann stating that he's not sure if he'll return, it's a pretty good bet they'll take someone this year to replace him.

Yes, and publicly meeting with players at the Senior Bowl is never used as a smoke signal.
