Are All Recreational Softball Players Douchebags?

Yesterday, I played in a benefit softball tournament for a motorcycle riding buddy of mine who got in a wreck and has been in a coma since June 30, to try to raise a few bucks for his girlfriend and her son with the bills etc. The guy had his liver removed, 1 lung, shattered pelvis, and 2 broken legs. He's only laying there, eyes open, sedated, while healing. finally responding to things...from a 'medical' condition but he's essentially in a coma with his eyes open at this point.

I have not swung a bat since 1994, and have not been involved in any sort of recreational sport since. The fee for this particular benefit was like $225 per team or something the equivalent of $$20/ish per person.

I was shocked and the number of douche bags that were there. There were 3....THREE mother ****ers there that played college baseball. They showed up completely decked out in full ****ing gear, talking shit to everyone.. Routinely cranking out 300'+ homers each time up to bat.......when their team is up by 15+ in the final innings when their opponents had only scored a single run. all but probably 2 teams were made up entirely of friends and family of the victim.....the the douche bags were on those two.

another douche bag example was three guys bitching and moaning about the $20 fee; and that they didn't like the color of their teams' t-shirts. One guy asked a general question of "this is bullshit...who's in charge of this bs"? I pointed to the the girlfriend of the victim and said "Over there. she's the g/f of the guy who's been in a ****ing coma for a month,, and who this tournament is for you ****ing douche bag".

I walked away; nothing escalated beyond that. and he didn't approach her.

I mean, JFC...you're playing a small little benefit with no ****ing 'prize' etc, to raise some bucks for her and her kid while he's trying to survive, and dudes roll out in full on beast mode. playing against 60 yrd old people on a team, and fattys like myself who were playing in jeans and motorcycle boots (having ridden down)

****ing pathetic. I've never seen such a large number of people in one gathering with so little perspective. Pathetic pathetic pathetic.

I played some co-ed church league and a men's league for a while and it was fun for a season or two. Then it went full on douche.

Guys started showing up with 2k in bats, full custom uniforms, shaved this, rolled that, going to cages, arguments after games, blah blah blah. Whole teams were shooting low power ropes through the co-ed infield after eating up the 5 homer rule in the first inning and being up by 20. The douche monsters were even taking the smack talk, bitching, complaining, bragging, and homer counts to Facebook as if anyone else in the world gave a **** about whether their last homer was x' or x+5'.

I hate to even admit I started out on one of the full bottles of year old douche teams in the church league and quit after a few games because it was the worst shit I had ever ****ing seen, let alone been apart of. I even apologized to the people who put it on for being apart of it for the few games I was and offered to sub for their teams when they needed me to.

One of the guys I collaborate with had been to the camp and was talking it up among people he knew, so I knew four other people at the camp.

One of the traditions of the camp was a softball game. Sure enough, one of the people I knew (pretty solidly built guy in his early 20s) just explodes into the female catcher on a close play at the plate. Everyone was saying, "Dude! WTF are you thinking?" I just pretended like I didn't know him.
Yet the biggest question I have was why was it important to have a biology boot camp and not why Softball Guy was included in said camp.

5 homer limit?! Damn. That's a lot. We do 2. 3rd one ends the half inning...regardless if there is 0 outs.

There are these people called nerds that just love to learn stuff.

The funny thing was, I don't think this guy was Softball Guy. I'm pretty sure he just got carried away in the heat of the moment.

Okay, now that I will wholeheartedly agree with. I became a tyrant when it came to HS quiz team stuff.

I believe they're going to 1 homer per inning and the second one ends the inning next year hoping to get rid of the teams full of douches. It's either that or the teams that are actually comprised of church going people just out to have fun are quitting, thus shutting down the whole league.

The best is 38 year old Corporate Challenge softball guy who has a wallet size picture of his kid on his desk but all 3 walls of his cubicle are covered with Corp Challenge softball medals. He works 2 hours a day and spends the rest of his day "scouting" the break room for new talent for next years tourney.

You are being generous, college softball players can barely hit 200ft.

Just need to separate them. Had that problem when I played. Team would win by 25+ runs against most teams. We played them close, but they were honestly too good. So we started forfeiting, did not tell them. Just did not show up. Couple other teams did it with us.

Man that team was pissed. Hey, we paid or money like you. Didn't care, Sadly Independence would not restrict them from the lowest level. We moved to another site.

Eventually they split up into different teams.

Need to make a rule, if your team dominates and goes undefeated in a season, no more than 3 of those guys can be on the same team the next year. Will either stop them, or add more teams to league. Hopefully just not more dicks. Of course, most douche softballers only know other douche softballers.

I played in a tournament once again Washburn university's baseball team. They were the visiting team and the score was like 19-0 after the top of the first. They hit like 8 home runs in the first inning.

That is still odd, I have never seen anything other than 2 hrs, and each one after that is an out. Or 2hrs, plus 1up, then out.

That would seriously suck to have an inning end that way. Of course most people that can jack a homer with ease can send a missile four to five feet off the ground also. I hated those playing 3rd. Them and them ****ing rocket grounders that I never knew were going to bounce off of shit fields.

I am one upping sadly, but not a good way. Played a tournament, first game against a traveling team. We did not even bat through our order before the end of the 3rd. Lost 30something to zero. I did get a hit, but doubled up at 2nd.

D league, non competitive tournament. lol, they are right, no such thing exists.
