Here's the video of Mahomes beating cover 2 with a great ball to Chesson. Go to 2:28.

Not a great play, but it's definitely one Smith doesn't make.

![]() I'm not even going to address the idea that he looked like Smith, but you should analyze more clearly and see that for half of that game he played with backups against Seattle starters. |

dink to LOS scramble and sack instead of TIA short throw behind receiver scramble, throw it away at receivers back long bomb OOB too high over mifddle, lucky not picked off 1st down over middle close to 1st scramble for short gainand 1st d long bomb to endzone, way overthrown too high pass to LOS 10yd pas 1d ball thrown too far OOB no TD fumble for a loss low pass, no completion dink 3yd pass, immediately covered
Now, he did have a few nice plays, but what about the majority of that is any better than what AS does on average. Not talking about his outliers, but AVERAGE. I'll take your word for it as against Seattle's starters. But the misses in the video weren't drops, they were bad throws IMO. And this was pointed to as his best game wasn't it??

3 snaps a week and people think Reid is going to voluntarily bench Smith? Bench the guy who was the leading QB in the league for the first 5 games of the year? Good luck with that.

First of all, what did he do different from Alex Smith? Proved multiple times he has better pocket presence. Showed ability multiple times to throw on the run, even more impressive that he did it rolling left. Multiple times threw at the sticks instead of the checkdown. Gives his receivers a chance when he throws the ball away (we saw that multiple times in the preseason). In the face of pressure, he still tries to make a throw with none of those passes looking at all risky. And by the way, I don't think this was the game he showed what he can do. This was a game where he showed what he had learned. In previous games, he was absolutely outstanding using his mobility not to run, even pressure situations the took a miracle to get out of. This was a game where he replaced some of that freelancing with very smart throwaway balls and where he looks to get rid of the ball much, much faster. There is no way you can possibly think that Mahomes didn't flash this preseason that he has a hell of a lot more to offer than Smith. Of course it's a risk. But I don't think it is because there isn't any more upside to Smith. We know exactly what he is. |

Hey guys, life long Chiefs fan. I have lurked these forums for a while but never made an account until now. I have been active on the Chiefs Reddit page, and it turns out advocating for Mahomes is very unpopular over there.. who would have thought? Figured I would make an account here so I can hang out with the cool kids. Some of you on here are pretty brutal tho so be gentle at first or use lube or something.
I've never been a Smith dickrider but tried to give him the benefit of the doubt pretty much the whole time he has been a Chief up until now. With the people who ride or die with him its never his fault and always this, that, or the third excuse that he doesn't get it done. Poor line play, no WRs, the wind, poor play calling, poor coaching, or anything else under the sun to deflect blame. I'm all aboard the Mahomes train now. I was at the game this Sunday and got to witness Smith shit the bed in real time and it was the last straw for me. It was excruciating. Bottom line is a QB is rarely ever going to have a perfect or ideal situation around him, and while Smith is not the worst, he is one of those guys that would literally need everything around him to be absolutely perfect and have a #1 defense on the other side of the ball if he was ever going to win anything, sort of like a Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson type. Also, I think a lot of the play calling that people harp on is a result of the way the offense is run to live within Smith's limited skill set. We shouldn't HAVE to be running gimmick plays to try and make things happen. Look, nothing against Smith personally, he seems like a great person and I do appreciate his contributions to helping get us out of the mess we were in prior to 2013, but this is a business and when its time, its time. Everyone always mentions what a "true professional" he is, so he should understand, right? He will likely be a starter somewhere else after KC. He'll get another shot, but we moved up to draft the kid for a reason. |
