Don't be ridiculous. He was getting his hair done.

Seriously... he seems like a nice guy, but he's definitely a Type A personality. He supposedly hates to lose, at ANYTHING, even a game of checkers in the locker room, and when he loses he gets really pissed off. I think it's probably that whole dual personality thing where he has both a giant ego and yet paradoxically huge feelings of inadequacy due to splitting time in college and being drafted late (which to this day he admits motivating him). You're talking about a guy who was on the Patriots' roster as the #4 QB who supposedly introduced himself to Kraft while walking by carrying a pizza and saying something like, "Drafting me is the best thing you ever did." In his weekly radio interviews he's like Belichick's Mini-Me: self-deprecating, almost never saying anything bad about another team or his teammates, and whenever they try to bait him into it he literally simply answers a different question (e.g. this week they asked if Cromartie's comments irritated him, and he responded with a bland paragraph summing up as "the Jets are a very good team"). And on the other hand, he scored a supermodel wife. He might actually BE an asshole on occasion, but begging the refs for a flag every now and then probably doesn't qualify him as one.

Now, Belichick, on the other hand.... probably a GIANT asshole.

Actually, with friends ranging from Jimmy Johnson (annual fishing excursions) to Bon Jovi, and rumors of a really great (though dry) sense of humor, I suspect Belichick is much cooler than any of us ever get to see on TV.

Which I could give a crap about anyway. JUST WIN GODDAMMIT. You can have the personality of a rock, JUST WIN. You can have the fashion sense of a rotting corpse, JUST WIN.

I saw enough great guys lose. Dick MacPherson is probably the genuinely nicest guy to walk a sidelines, but he sucked as a head coach.

Oh, I think Belichick's way cool. But you can be cool and still be an asshole. And using Jimmy Johnson as a character reference is probably not the best example, LOL.

As you said, nothing wrong with being an asshole. Some of the most successful people in their fields have been assholes. Politics, Hollywood, sports, music, whatever.

Wes Welker likes his “foot” metaphors
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 13, 2011, 3:23 PM EST
Wes Welker, Carson Butler

Just when you think the chatter between the Patriots and Jets couldn’t get sillier, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker stepped to the podium Thursday as if dared to see how many “foot” references he could cram in to a single media session. Behold:

1. On this week of preparation: “Everybody’s putting their best foot forward.”

2. On young players in the playoffs: “You can’t just stick your toe in the water. You gotta jump right in.”

3. On playing this year as opposed to last year: “It’s definitely different. You know, you’ve got your foot up in the air trying to get the swelling to go down. Definitely excited about the opportunity to get out there and have some fun.”

4. On the opportunity this week: “These are the games you play for. What you spend all year getting ready for and you just want to put your best foot forward.”

5. On Revis: “He’s got great feet.”

6. On Revis again: “He’s very patient, has good feet.”

7. On Deion Branch: “He runs some really good routes out there . . . He’s another guy with great feet and can really move around.”

8. On practice: “You want to make sure you’re putting your best foot forward out there and making it happen.”

9. More on practice: “Us going out there and being good little foot soliders and making sure we’re going out there and doing everything coach asks us to do.”

10. On seeing new things in the playoffs: “You definitely have to be on your and make sure you’re ready to go.”

Genius. Since this is clearly the most important post I’ll ever write at PFT, let’s analyze further.

Welker is deadpan as ever with his delivery, so there’s no way he can really be called out for it. A few clues indicate that it’s not just a coincidence. Jackie McMullen of ESPNBoston.com wrote a great feature on Welker. Part of it is about what a huge prankster he is.

“Put Wes, Matt [Cassel] and Larry Izzo in a room, and they are ‘The Three ,’” Tom Brady said.

Welker got his first “foot” reference in on his first question and rarely let up in his ten minutes of talking. He also appears to be stifling a smile and/or laugh after his two most ridiculous references — No. 2 and No. 9.

Maybe it’s all a coincidence, but we really doubt it. And that would be no fun. We’ll continue to update you on this vitally important breaking story here at PFT.
God bless you Wes Welker.

I dont care what he does on the field, as long as they win. My biggest worry for this game against the Jets,is the 1 week layoff. & they play out of rhythm ,make a bunch of bone head mistakes. ect.
Its the only way I see the jets winning this game.
& god forbid if Rex were ever to win a SuperBowl. REX will never shut up

it always depends on Sanchez...in the Pats case...if Brady is picking up 3rd downs they are impossible to beat.

But yeah...if Sanchez plays like he did against the Colts the Pats will win by 14+

He missed open throw after open throw after open throw and almost gave the vastly inferior Colts the game.

Pats fans don't know how good they have it...and they should cherish the now and Belichick...because when he's gone it'll never be the same...no one can coach like that guy...he's amazing. He's always a step or two ahead of the curve.

You gotta be kidding me -- I know exactly how good we have it. I lived through 2-14 and 1-15 seasons and the biggest Super Bowl blowout loss in NFL history at the time.

Ben Dreith and Tony Eason. Victor Kiam and PenisGate (or whatever you want to call it). Irving Fryar and the kitchen knife incident. Ken Sims and being the "Patsies". Bill Parcells, buying groceries and the "we're playing in the Super Bowl, great, let me start negotiating with my team's rivals about jumping ship". Dick MacPherson and Ron Ehrhart and Rod Rust.

Marino/Shula and Kelly/Levy kicking our ass every year.

DON'T TELL ME I DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD I HAVE IT. I'VE GONE FROM THE OUTHOUSE TO THE PENTHOUSE, AND LIFE IS ****ING SWEET!

Almost nothing here upsets me, to be honest, but this one was irritating.

Don't frigging tell me I don't appreciate how good it is. You gotta be old enough to remember just how f'n BAD it was to know how good you have it.

oh I know you had it bad...what I really meant was...

I'd be almost kind of sad to be a Pats fan...because the end is closer than the beginning...and when it ends it'll never be the same.

You'll be starting threads telling us "we don't know how bad it is" like good ol' Rams Fan who's team won a Super Bowl a decade ago...

At least the Broncos fans are still living it up from their back to back titles.

Ray Berry was a perfectly ok coach, and did soem good stuff for us, including Squish the Fish and all that. Can't lump him in with the coaching turds that I named. Those guys just flat sucked.

Hell, Berry would've had a good year in '87 too if we hadn't lost three defensive starters, all above-average guys, in the preseason.
