Romeo Crennel said Sunday evening that Kendrick Lewis is “going to be down for a little bit,” but the starting free safety is not a candidate to go on the injured-reserve list because of the shoulder injury he suffered Saturday night in St. Louis.

“He’ll probably be in a sling for a couple days and then we will start rehabbing and see how quickly he can come along,” Crennel told the media. “He is not an IR candidate.”

Crennel said that no surgery was required for the injury. It’s the same shoulder that he injured last season and underwent surgery once the season was over. The head coach confirmed it was the same shoulder, but a different injury than the one he dealt with last year.

“He has to rest the shoulder and have it immobilized for a little bit before we can start some movement and exercise,” said Crennel. “We will see how quickly we can get him back.”

Good deal.

I bet, (like I said 5 times in the game thread) it was a stinger or atleast thats what it sounds like.

I played SS in high school, was 6"2 185, thought I was a badass, loaded up in the box and took on a guy going about 5"10 230, playing fullback. Ended up with a stinger. Felt like my shoulder was a foot lower on the right than the left, hurt like hell.

After about a week, I was back to pretty much 100%. I know it's not the same level of play, but anyway

Stingers hurt like shit. Sounds like with the treatment they are giving it, thats what happened.

Well, they are trained to determine if it is a torn ligament, the first time.

Thank you for sharing your amazing medical insight, O. Are you a doctor? Could you tell me the process for diagnosing a torn ACL?

Shut the **** up Wendler. Who gives a shit if they don't fully disclose about injuries? It provides a competitive advantage to the team. Pioli doesn't answer to the fans, he answers to Clark. He is under no obligation to disclose injury status to the fans.

Actually, jackass, I am a doctor.

Just a teeth doctor.

But I do know from previous experience, that you can do mechanical manipulation of the knee to determine if there is any structural damage, but an MRI is used for these determinations.

And NONE of them freak out about preseason like SO MANY do here.

Why would they do that and risk further injuries?

I'll worry about Flowers next month if he's not in the opener.
There are lots of tests they can do on the sideline to check for ligament damage...it's the medical staffs job to protect the players from themselves.

I have always thought that Berry had a sprained ACL from the SJ hit and fully tore it on the first play back.

If I'm right, the medical staff cost us half a season with Berry and that alone probably cost us the playoffs being we were a game out of winning the division.

Well Duh.

They ALREADY know they're gonna suck. No need to freak out if you have nothing to hope for in the first place.
