WTF?

Bowe is in the prime of his career. He's never had great hands or was a precise route runner - two things required in a West Coast offensive system. He was allowed to free lance a lot more and it provided some highlight reel catches from time to time. But he's not elite. Not even close.

And any guy on the receiving end of Brady, Manning or Brees is going to have elevated TD numbers. Your mom would have high TD numbers with Brady throwing to her.

Are you ****ing high right now?

I can appreciate most of your post there, but ELITE is too strong. He just needs decent talent around him.

I've been pleased with Alex's play this year. I was not an Alex supporter, but wasn't totally against it. I didn't think 2 # 2's was the ticket so he has to earn my trust and keep, he is on his way of doing this.

I felt all along he would get better once the offense and he was on the same the same page. The last 5 games is a vast improvement.

Alex has never been a bad QB, he has just played on bad teams or poorly coached teams until Harbaugh. I have always said that Alex can play QB well ( not great ) but you have to have several playmakers around him. Naturally, this is the goal of every GM

As long as Alex is our QB, we must have elite talent around him. It is what it is.
So, the team stands 11-3, tied with the best record in the NFL and has clinched a playoff berth with two games remaining in the season.

What elite talent do we have surrounding Smith that has led the team to this record? (Now, I would hate to bring up the oft-stated opinion that the QB is the most important position on the field and determines the overall success of the team more often than not, but...)

Charles is elite. Other than that, who do we have?

We have not won anything yet except a bunch of games. Games that when our offense was still vanilla and out of sync. Games that were won by the defense against bad teams or teams lacking quality QB's, games won by a weak schedule.

Let's not anoint someone that has not produced a 300 yard passing game this season. Let's not anoint someone that is not called upon many times over to win us a game when the situation has not been called upon that often.

Alex has not warranted an extensions yet. He has played well in year # 1 when we do not have that elite talent around him, games we have won because of other circumstances.

Alex is what I knew he was, a good QB, not bad, not elite.

umm ... the talent around Alex Smith is not even close to elite right now.

no real #1 WR
no real #1 TE
due to injury - starting a street FA at TE in a scheme that relies on the TE's
youngest Oline in the NFL
WR having a bad case of the dropsies most of the year
1st year scheme
1st year coaching staff

Jamaal Charles is the only thing Elite around Alex Smith right now and we are winning.

and, that's BAD?

I have yet to ever understand why Charles being the best player on the planet is such a bad thing. Why shouldn't the Chiefs get the ball in his hands as much as possible?

JC did make AS look elite today. 3 of those TD's were a combination of JC owning ass, and the Oakland Raid sucking nuts. AS kind of just 'threw' the short pass, and allowed JC to make it happen. JC's fourth receiving TD, AS had a lot to with that one no doubt though.

that is stretching it, because Charles has been the constant badass even before Alex.

no doubt that Charles is our key piece on offense but Alex Smith hasn't fallen apart without elite talent surrounding him like he suggested.

2,800 passing, 380 rushing, 60% completion

all after playing martyball for 8/9 games to start the season

everyone wants an elite QB, but we could do a lot worse than Alex Smith while waiting to find ours.

We also haven't played a great pass defense either

This is what I am saying. This years wins is not really by him alone. We have because of other reasons, not on the heels of Alex Smith.

At the same time, we have not lost games because of Alex Smith either, he's good, not bad and not elite. If we had to rely all the time on him to win games, I do not think we would win often enough to compete.
