#4 - A third party holds the U.S. presidency.

I voted yes on this.

It may just be a temporary hiccup, but Americans seem to be very tired of Democrats and Republicans, who do not really represent the mainstream population any more. We haven't had a new party formed since the Republicans, but the Bull Moose party made a good run, and at various times we've created Democrats and Whigs from the original Federalists. So it's not unprecedented.

The biggest challenge is that the two parties have built in financial perqs for themselves that make it very difficult to create a third party these days. But I think Americans are close to the point where a populist movement could take hold and climb up enough to get into the matching funds game. At least I hope so.

I think we have a third party president sometime in the next fifty years.

Ever since Charles Manson got engaged, I have a lot of optimism for xzrtop.

#5 - A U.S. President is assassinated.

I voted no. Our last assassination was 51 years ago. Granted, I think that attempts are more common as the years go by, but I think the security measures are advancing more quickly. I think a planned assassination would be very hard to pull off in the modern world. If it happens, it's probably going to be some weird fluky thing where the president does some impromptu campaign stop and encounters a loony who happens to be carrying a gun.

Apparently it's not that hard. Some nutjob just made it in the white house with a knife.

Ronny was almost killed. Clinton was shot at. Obama was invaded. If a terror group really wanted it and had funding it could be done easier than we think...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Well, good point.

It's interesting to me that early presidents had so little security, but the first assassination took 16 presidents. Were there just fewer loonies back then, or were they too busy farming and moving west to waste time shooting a president? Or were presidents just a whole lot more popular back then?

Question; did you write these questions out beforehand? Because I could not keep track of the question-count if I were to create a poll of this magnitude.

Oh, yeah. There's a lot of prep that goes into a megapoll. You're working up drafts, you're editing, you're cutting, and then of course you have to alphabetize. It's not a spur of the moment exercise.

I'm working on an epic Chiefsplanet thread now, but it's still a long way from unveiling. But I would recommend that you not leave forever until you see it.

#6 - Antigravity is brought into everyday use.

I voted no.

This would be very useful, but I think there are still some significant physics issues to be solved, and I don't think we're close yet.
