Gruden's going to be just fine.
He knows what he's doing. He can win with Carr. They draft well next year they are going to be good. |

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas. Gruden has a career .517 winning percentage. Whoopdee-freaking-do. Highly. Average. |

Jon Gruden is going to turn the Raiders around. How far they get depends a lot on Carr's development. But next year the Raiders will be better than they've been this year.
And IMO he's play-calling exactly how he should with Carr as his QB. The more pass attempts Carr has to make in a game, the more likely that he makes mistakes. That's been his MO in his career. Oh look, they draft Josh Jacobs and he becomes the driving force on that team. They surround Carr with a huge OL, that can run block. Hmm, Carr only has to throw about 20-25 times in a game. Oh, and look, another physical, run-stopping defense. Gruden's Raiders will be relevant by the end of next year. |

As long as they have Carr...they wont. He is what he is at this point...he's not going to become some stellar franchise QB. He's serviceable with a good game every 5 or 6....kind of like Cousins.
Jacobs was a good pick...that was Maylock's choice. Don't forget the Chargers were playing without their starting LT & RT. They both looked like average division teams playing each other... |

But the Raiders will be relevant next year. Not great, and certainly not a real challenge for the Chiefs in 2020, but they'll be in the national conversation next year as a real football team, not the joke they've been for more than a decade. IF they draft well and increase their depth across the board. Aside from depth issues, their real problem going forward is Derek Carr. Can they succeed into the playoffs with him behind center? I think it's possible, but unlikely. I think they'll be forced to go QB shopping at the end of next year. |

I said before the season...keep an eye on the Raiders. They have a move to Vegas with a shiny new stadium. Almost every team with a new stadium somehow magically overachieves the year before they move...
*cough cough* Raiders next 2 games are against teams with one win...combined. They are in line to be sitting at 7-4. I'm a prophet... not really...I just know Goodell is a snake and recognize his manipulative "profit" patterns. Ask yourself...was there anything about the Raiders that said 7-4/potential play-off team before the season started? That would be a "hell no"... Last edited by BlackOp; 11-08-2019 at 11:37 PM.. |
