LDT can't be long for this team.

And for the record I'm fine with Blythe as C for now. He's a passable starter if you have good talent around him and it looks like we now do.

I also really like the options we have along the line and how many guys can play multiple positions. We should have given this attention to the line 2 years ago...

Whatever the Chiefs may or may not have thought of Reiter, he clearly overplayed his hand and now he's an afterthought.

I'm guessing they got tired of waiting on him to make up his mind and offered a similar one year deal to Blythe. He snapped it up and now Reiter is going to have to take whatever he can get elsewhere.

A lot of the value placed on players is their position flexibility. That goes double for OL because you can only usually afford to have 7 active. No team has 10 active. If you aren’t a starter, you need to be able to play multiple positions to be available. Also, as we saw horrifically last year, is that as injuries happen players get shuffled around.

Blythe was obviously signed to play center right away, but he may end up at RG at one point this season.

Your point is still valid, but in 2020 NFL expanded roster rules for 8 offensive linemen -

Quote:
New CBA rule: Starting this season, game-day active rosters, which used to be limited to 46 players per team, can include up to 48 players, provided that at least eight of those 48 are offensive linemen. (If not, the game-day roster size is limited to 47 players.)

LDT has only started 16 games in a year once and has missed 20 games to injury in his 5 years before opting out of 2020.

Longs injury history is well known.

Neither of those guys can be fully counted on to play 16 games at RG at a high level.

That's why you bring in a center that can also play RG if needed.

They're not going to start with LDT and Long on the bench just because they might get injured.

Andy is about the best 5 guys. Long or LDT is going to start at RG and stay there unless they get hurt, which is absolutely a possibility. Of course, the chances of both of them getting hurt at the same time, when they likely won't be on the field at the same time, is pretty low.

That’s exactly why they chose Blythe after deciding to move on from Reiter.

Right.

To play center and backup up RG in an emergency. Not to play RG.

Austin Blythe - Good signing and contract very, very team friendly.

Quote:
Three time Iowa State Wrestling Champion at 285 (Williamsburg) - 2009, 2010, and 2011 with record of - 188 - 11, 50 - 1 as Senior
https://www.iahsaa.org/wp-content/up...21-12.3.20.pdf
“Everything in wrestling translates to football,” Blythe told USA TODAY’s Jori Epstein ahead of Super Bowl LIII. “Hand placement, leverage, keeping your elbows in, bending at the knees not the hips. All that stuff translates directly to offensive-line play.”

Quote:
Sure, Blythe was a bit undersized, but he was highly decorated for the Iowa Hawkeyes during his tenure. He started 49 of 50 games played during his career and was made a permanent team captain. In his senior year, he was one of three finalists for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the top center in college football. Sometimes those are the types of intangibles that make you a solid NFL player regardless of your draft status.

Is there anybody other than King on CP that doesn’t know that Reiter’s run blocking was a constant issue the last 2 years?

We’re a passing team, so they obviously put up with it, but to argue against the fact that they clearly wanted more balance there after letting him walk and replacing him with a guy that does just that is ****ing reeruned.

Who doesn’t think that Reiter’s run blocking was an issue the last 2 years? This is exactly why I say King has no ****ing clue when he tries to talk football.
