With the new rules allowing players to get paid, they never will. It will only get more lopsided for Alabama and the SEC.

It may not, honestly. There's alot bigger schools with much richer alumni than Alabama (last I saw, they were somewhere in the mid-30s in enrollment) which could sway players to go elsewhere, especially the Big 10, PAC 12, and ACC. Not to mention those 3 conferences created a scheduling alliance in August to feature better cross-conference matchups.

We'll see, but there's plenty of other top-tier programs in the country that will benefit.

They've also benefitted from some traditional powers turning to shit..if USC, Miami, FSU, Texas etc can return to respectability, Alabama won't be as good.

Yeah it would just end the same way with Alabama, Clemson or on rarer occasions, one of the other upper tier SEC teams winning in the end. Such a wide gulf at the top.

They would have to make it Conference Champions only get in. Without that you'd just end up with more of the same "Traditional" Powers voted in every year. Winning a Conference will no longer mean anything, the SEC will just keep swallowing up all the big traditional football schools and turn CFP into an all SEC Playoff.

You pretty much get that already. Cut the list at Notre Dame and that pretty well covers the top conferences and teams. Ohio State will always be up in that mix.

I think the benefit of expansion to 8 is forcing teams to get through one more game. 'Bama caught a break today not facing a much better offensive team. Could they risk doing it 2/3 vs 1/2?
