Spiller is the type of talent that warrants consideration even with Berry on the board (whom I'm ultimately in favor of us selecting).

Two dynamic backs in Charles and Spiller, focus on improving the o-line, and all of a sudden our mediocre QB looks a lot better.

We still need a receiver in the worst way, and I mean a guy not taken off the waiver wire during the season. A halfway decent tight end might help, too.

Suffice to say it's not defending Cassel or his play to acknowledge the fact that he's been placed in an absolutely abysmal position...

How the hell do you justify spending a top five pick on a RUNNING BACK when the one we have just ripped off more yards than anyone but one guy in the last two months.

When there's a notable drop-off in talent, it's pretty easy.

He's a weapon on offense, plain and simple, and our ST would be exponentially better immediately.

In the top 5 you take game changers.

But I agree with the overall philosophy of NOT taking RBs very high unless they're ridiculously special. I believe Spiller fits into this category, though.

I'd rather take a WR than Spiller. Is there not a single freaking OLB in this draft worthy of top 10 consideration?

I think we can get comparable WR talent in the second round this year.

There's not a freak rush backer, or this would be the obvious debate between him and Berry.

But, hey, top 10 consideration? This doesn't stop the Executive of the Century.

Agreed. If we're going to reach, we could do MUCH worse than McClain.

That pick wouldn't shock me at all - especially after the Pats took Mayo in the Top 10.

I'm not downplaying Spiller's ability in the slightest, but unless you are absolutely sold on him being the next Tomlinson, you don't make the pick of a runningback that high in the draft. Just my opinion (and I'd love to see Charles and Spiller lined up next to Cassel in shotgun).

A WR with a bummed knee probably won't be a 2nd round pick. And you can get a ILB just as good in the middle rounds.
