That might be a good philosophy beginning in the middle of the first round and moving on towards the rest of the draft.

And it's probably a good philosophy if you have the first overall pick. What people don't realize is what goes on when teams make their big boards. Players aren't assigned scores in a vacuum and then the highest score gets taken. Position value and team need absolutely account for an assessment of BPA.

If the team re-signs Branden Albert and Dorsey has Joeckel as the highest rated player on his board according to position value and overall talent (not taking need into account at all) would he still take him at #1? That'd be incredibly stupid.

I'm pretty sure Geno Smith is going to be at the top of KC's board. They will have stayed true to BPA and gotten the player that's right for them.

Remember, it's not the best 53 players, but the RIGHT 53 players

I didn't miss the point. Gil Brandt is incapable of expressing himself correctly.

But Luke fucking Joeckel? This guy is a nice LT, but he's not a guy who is a slam dunk.

Star fucking Lotuleilei? Come on.

If you are as QB-starved as KC, and your choice at No. 1 is a QB who grades out at 93/100 or a LT who grades out at 95/100, come on. Easy fucking choice.
ABSOLUTELY correct. There isn't a sure-fire pick at ANY position this year. There isn't a Charles Woodson, Orlando Pace, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson type in the draft. Every player you take is a risk.

I would have to argue that AP wasn't a no brainer.
There were major concerns about the injury and how that would effect his draft stock, which is I'm not mistaken got him taken 7th or 8th?

Those lucky Vikings though, AP is awesome.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock stated on the Rich Eisen Podcast that he has a "hard time buying" West Virginia QB Geno Smith as a legitimate selection for the Chiefs at No. 1 overall."I have a hard time buying into that," said Mayock, fresh off studying 12 hours of Geno's tape. "I couldn't even pound the table today for a first-round quarterback, let alone a (No. 1) pick quarterback. I watched a bunch of Geno Smith and he can make every throw. He's athletic. The ball jumps out of his hand. But there's a lot of things that make me nervous about him. He misses people by wide margins for no reason. I see a little bit of hesitancy with the blitz. When that first read is not there, it's not as pretty on the second or third read. His eyes come down. He makes mistakes." Feb 14 - 12:49 PM

Mayock needs to see Geno run a sub 4.5 40 before he becomes a believer.

Yup, makes mistakes. That's why his completion percentage was below 80 in many games.

He just needs 2 more hours of tape...

14 hours is the magic number.

Haven't posted in here yet. Still solidly on board the Geno bandwagon.

I've said this somewhere else, but last years QB class has completley skewed the "experts'" opinions on what drafting a QB high in the first means. They look for someone who is Luckian in his ability to come in and transition smoothly as possible to the NFL game, and to that point, there may not be anyone ready to play. Hell, even Washington had to bring the run option for RGIII to play at a high level, which is fine.

I'll refer to Cam Newton with everyone blathering on about how there isn't a QB worth the top pick. When he was drafted, most "experts" had him going middle low first, and some even in the second. ALl he did was throw for 4,000 yards and score 30+ touchdowns his rookie year.

Conclusion - it's the middle of February, and these "experts" don't know **** about shit, especially considering that none of these guys have had their combine or pro day workouts yet.
