There is a reason that nobody else plays that system other than Pitino but his press style is different so that doesn't really count. All in all it doesn't work, 40 minutes of wtf will only get you so far and the Hog fans will see that in due time.
The problem is that the Razorbacks won a national title and made several trips deep into the tourney on that style of ball under Nolan. As such, if it truly doesn't work, it's going to take our fans a little longer to give up on it.

Some people see the Anderson love as a nostalgia trip for the bygone glory days of the Richardson era in a league that will no longer allow success at that style of play.

Others (I tend to be one of these) think that it's just about catching lightning in a bottle. As you all have pointed out, it doesn't always work. But.. guess what? No system ALWAYS works. Look at the completely screwy losses handed out to high ranked teams by low ranked opponents repeatedly this season. I think it's possible to make it work, as we've seen in the past, but I'm not sure that Anderson can do it. We'll see.

It wasn't about you guys catching lightning in a bottle. You had Todd Day, Oliver Miller, Corliss Williamson, Lee Mayberry, and Scotty Thurman on those early 90s teams. That's a shitload of NBA-caliber talent, and it's not surprising that when that well dried up, so did Richardson's success.

It also doesn't help that his style is anachronistic and he has no concept of how to design an offense.

When Anderson left Denmon posted a tweet that said, "No more 40 minutes of bad knees." Elite players don't want to play in a system where they run so much and get far fewer minutes than in comparable programs. It's a system for junkyard dogs, and although it can work under the most perfect of circumstances, it's akin to hoping for a game manager QB and an '85 Bears-quality defense.

Interesting.....if MU wins at Tennessee and Florida beats UK on Saturday, does that give MU 2nd place?

The flip side of that...an MU loss and they can go from 2nd to 6th.

Brown is an extremely efficient scorer. His defense is lacking, but he probably plays the least important defensive position. I would like to see us simplify our defensive scheme and have the guards stop helping the post.

If he can just become a mediocre defender, he's going to be a monster. He's an NBA player. The biggest question is when.

See that's the thing, Mike Anderson doesn't get the same caliber recruits that Nolan Richardson got. He doesn't get blue chippers, he recruits 3 star guys that fit his system. A five star stud is not going to give up playing time, not going to happen. I like your optimism for your team but I'm just warning you what to expect with MA. That system will frustrate the **** out of you as a fan, I promise.

Brown can be a physically dominating player, but he falls in love with his jump shot, and he shouldn't. If he's open and his feet are totally set, it's a fine shot for him to take. But unless that occurs, when he gets the ball he needs to drive to the basket, not throw up off balance 3s and step-backs.

I agree that Coach Nestor seemed to be key to how the team ran good offense last year. Do you have any idea why he left?

And of course every system doesn't work 100 percent of the time but this I can tell you, in the modern college game, if you want to make the Final Four or win the National title then you better have an inside game and you better rebound, Mike Andersons teams do neither. It is what it is.

After a very slow start, we are in the top ten in the country in offensive efficiency.

This isn't accurate. You touted the offensive efficiency early in the year, it fell off a cliff, and it has rebounded since then.

Regardless of stat mining, someone who watches the games as often as you do knows that this time executes extremely inconsistently in the half court offense.

Chances to win, tie, or take the lead five times in the half court against teams on the final possession and we've failed every time.

We've failed under pressure because Pressey craps his pants. We have the tenth best scoring margin in the country in the second half of games overall, though. Our half court offense has been incredible when we have had our five starters healthy.

I think that our rebounding edge beautifies the offensive execution in the half court.

The largest portion of blame can be put upon Pressey for the last minute failures, but at the same time, the people calling that play are also designing the rest of the offensive possessions, and the lack of creativity in final possessions is not all that different from the offensive spell we go through when the team stands around the three point line.

When we need a bucket we generally clear out and dump it into Oriakhi in the post. It's good strategy, but it's not indicative of a crisply executing offensive team.

Look at the difference in the clean looks on last year's team, which had worse athletes off the dribble, and this year's team, which should be able to drive and kick or finish on nearly every possession.
