If you give me 20 HRs and 45 2bs, you're absolutely a good #3 hitter.

It's not Ryan Braun, but there's a difference between being a legitimate #3 hitter and a legitimate superstar.

Look at what Holliday's done since 2008. He's a 25 HR, 45 2b, .300 hitting RBI machine because of his approach and raw strength. That's the kind of player that Alex Gordon has become and that's absolutely a guy that can/should be playing in the 3 hole. If you get yourself a 30+ HR guy, he's probably not going to also be a burner, so he's your 4 hitter.

Gordon's blend of power/speed/patience is absolutely perfect for a 3rd place hitter, IMO.

Agreed...I put RBI's in the same column as batting avg. They're nice but misleading.

OK, but Gordon has hit 20 or more HRs once in his career. 88 total.

If he were consistently in the mid-20s, I'd be inclined to agree. And before we could slot a 30+ guy into the 4 hole, we'd need guys who could actually get on base at the top, which we don't.

I think you're asking too much of Dyson; I can't imagine he'll ever have the OBP for the leadoff role.

Cain
Perez
Gordon
Butler
Hosmer
Moose

I've always liked having a guy with a little bit of thud at 2 and while Perez still has his legs, I'd have him batting 2. With age and time behind the plate, he'll lose some of the athleticism he has now and you'll need to move him down to 6/7 (hopefully Escobar would have developed into a potential 2 hitter at that point).

But you're right - you can't do what you 'should do' when they're all absolutely lost up there.

Firing Seitzer was just pure madness. I loved listening to that guy talk hitting on 810 - he flat out knew his shit.

Hamas - I was going to give it a bit to see if I could be convinced of his 2 'great' breaking balls, but I'm still not buying.

Lyons has a decent slurve, but it's a roller. It doesn't have a hard break and he doesn't have the fastball to make you fear it. You can hang back on it because Lyons works at 90 mph or so. I don't care for his changeup at all; he doesn't seem to do very well to stay on top of it. Really, I just don't see an out pitch here.

We're working with house money with this kid, IMO. I'd be shocked if he's able to keep his ERA below 4.50 for any appreciable period of time.

Yea, i was talking more an ideal situation but Dyson probably won't ever be that good.

I hated the Seitzer firing but a ton of people around here applauded it.

imo Seitzer took the fall for Moose and Hosmer sucking anus.

Moore and Yost blamed the hitting coach instead of the players and the minor league system for letting the players develop such crappy habits.
