In Clay's gif, Stanzi immediately looks right, immediately looks left and locks onto that receiver and throws the ball in that direction. It wasn't like he was working over the safety and ILB at the same time with look offs, pump fakes the CB and hits a bomb for a TD. The guy did two quick reads and threw a two yard out to the second read.

Jesus...

Let's ****ing annoint him into the Ring of Fame for that miracle of quarterbacking prowress.
Stanzi is the first rookie QB in years that has that aura of the Chiefs having hit on a legit QB in the draft. I don't know what it is, but I certainly sense a collective positive gut feeling (including my own) that we may have finally found our QBOTF. Maybe it's the fact that he shows great mechanics combined with poise for a rookie. Like I said I don't think we have seen this in a Chiefs rookie QB in years, maybe a couple of decades.

Most of us are arguing (with legitimate hope) whether he should dethrone Cassel now or in the next two years. Only a very few are sure that he will be another bust. I did start a thread with a poll b/c I was curious about this. I only wish I had made it a public poll. I'm curious to see who the pessimists are.

Absolutely true.

Brodie Croyle didn't exhibit one fraction of the confidence and ability Stanzi has already shown.

A faster receiver should put even more space between him and the defender behind him and could break that off for more yards after the catch.

No, you're absolutely right. I've seen Cassel make poor short-yardage throws more times than I care to count over the past two years.

It was just a bad throw - they happen. The fundamentals were pretty nice in that play, but the throw wasn't executed terribly well. EDIT: Watched it again, the mistake came with his feet. He didn't step towards his target, but rather stepped out a little. It brought his shoulder too far through and as expected, the throw followed his feet. So the mechanics weren't exactly ideal, but at least the problem is easily diagnosed and fixed.

If Cassel makes that throw, I'd be pretty pissed off about it. As such, I have to at least acknowledge that the throw probably should've been made. There was still plenty of good news to take away from that play, however.
One of the top 10 catches of last season was an awful throw from Cassel to Moeaki in the 49ers game. Sometimes the quality of the throw isn't as important as who is on the other end. Granted that throw isn't his best one, but if that's Bowe or Moeaki receiving then it's probably going to be caught. Stanzi and Palko both suffered at the hands of our receivers in this game.
