This video was too biased to get an honest grasp. It was a lowlight video.

It didn't even show the first Iowa TD. But it showed punt returners getting tackled for no gain.

It really did happen. I think Boss made an excuse saying thats what the coach told him to do.

Your evaluation of him is biased because you're an Iowa fan.

So I'll ask again, hoping I eventually get an answer:

Why was Stanzi a 5th round pick?
He started games poorly throughout his career and that got his team in a hole early in games. He still had this problem as a senior even. He threw 4 picks all year....3 of them were in the 1st quarter.

He had instances that left a lot to interpretation. Game situations that were mismanaged that sometimes fell on Stanzi, even when Ferentz said plain and simple that he was the one who made the call. One instance that is clear as day was the end of the Wisconsin game where we took a timeout with the clock running after gaining a first down. People put that on Stanzi even after Ferentz said after the game that Stanzi wanted to spike the ball and Kirk yelled to him from the sideline to call the timeout.

His sophmore and junior years, he tried to play like Favre. He tried to fit everything into tight spaces and a lot fo the time it ended poorly. He made mistakes in judgement and even though he learned form them and corrected those mistakes as a senior, that probably still goes as a strike against him.

In some situations he took unneeded and hurtful sacks (not a bunch of times like Cassel, but it did happen) that put his team in a position to have to punt instead of putting 3 points on the board.

His arm and release are really good until he had to throw past 40 yards or so, when the situation called for that he put WAYYY to much air under the ball. I think this is a mechanical issue that is indicative of lacking coaching because form time to time, he would throw a 50 yard laser...that shows he CAN do it, but teams that run a downfield passing attack probably shied away because of that...too much risk that he may not be a fit at all.

His lower body isnt gonna get mistaken for a couple of tree trunks and he would do well to add about 10 pounds of bulk muscle to his frame. He is like 6'5'' 230, but he can stand to be thicker to stand up to the rigors of a 16 game NFL season.

...

Past that, I dont really think he has many significant deficiencies that a coach like Zorn cant iron out with minimal work.

...

Now, getting on to the whole "if you had seen him play a lot for another college, you wouldnt like him as much"

Possible, but I think I would still view him as a major steal as a 5th rounder because I would have seen him respond to many difficult situations and overcome them and come out a better player for it.

Stanzi's arm is not average. You could see that in preseason. Great accuracy, too.

Most youtube videos are highlight videos. it's a Northwestern highlight that focuses on Iowa sucking. That video shows some of Stanzi's problem areas. Obviously not every pass of his or decision is as bad as that video. If it was he wouldn't have been drafted. It still sheds light on why he may have fell to the 5th.

Billay is exaggerating BIG TIME.

It was the Wisconsin game after the BS timeout.

We were down 1 point and were on the 45 yard line (or so, cant remember the exact yard line, but whats important was that we were within 10-15 yards of field goal range) and there was about 12 seconds left.

Stanzi threw to the back (that was wide open) about 3 steps from the sideline and the running back cut upfield instead of going out of bounds and us getting a field goal. You can watch the backs helmet the whole time and as soon as he catches the ball, he turns upfield.

That situation goes to coaching, preparedness and instincts of the back.

If the back immediately goes out of bounds, we are kicking a 52 yard (or so) field goal for the win against a top ten ranked team.

Whats even more ****ed about that scenario is that Stanzi wanted to spike the ball on the previous play to save their final timeout...which if we still had it, the back made the right move to cut upfield to help the kicker with a shorter field to kick...Ferentz and the back were at fault in that game that also included like 3 ****ed special teams plays that lost us the game as well.

To blame Stanzi in that situation is just dumb.

Cassel's arm is average, IMO.

Trent Green had an above average arm. I'd put Stanzi slightly above Green.

There was 12 seconds left no timeouts Iowa was at the Wisconsin 39 yard line. Keep in mind a first down stops the clock or he could throw the ball away. Instead Stanzi throws it to his RB for 3 yards clock expires

Cassel's arm is fine. A bunch of Planet BS that it is weak. It's not accurate, but it's not weak. You'll see weak Monday night.

"plus arm" is the term they use for his arm strength.

Not a howlitzer, but plenty strong enough to put zip on every NFL pass.

To call his arm "average" is as inaccurate as a Cassel deep pass when he is under no pressure.

Sorry, but Cassel's arm is below average by NFL standard.

Feel free to name the starting QB's with a weaker arm than Cassel's.

I'll wait.
