Are All Recreational Softball Players Douchebags?

Yesterday, I played in a benefit softball tournament for a motorcycle riding buddy of mine who got in a wreck and has been in a coma since June 30, to try to raise a few bucks for his girlfriend and her son with the bills etc. The guy had his liver removed, 1 lung, shattered pelvis, and 2 broken legs. He's only laying there, eyes open, sedated, while healing. finally responding to things...from a 'medical' condition but he's essentially in a coma with his eyes open at this point.

I have not swung a bat since 1994, and have not been involved in any sort of recreational sport since. The fee for this particular benefit was like $225 per team or something the equivalent of $$20/ish per person.

I was shocked and the number of douche bags that were there. There were 3....THREE mother ****ers there that played college baseball. They showed up completely decked out in full ****ing gear, talking shit to everyone.. Routinely cranking out 300'+ homers each time up to bat.......when their team is up by 15+ in the final innings when their opponents had only scored a single run. all but probably 2 teams were made up entirely of friends and family of the victim.....the the douche bags were on those two.

another douche bag example was three guys bitching and moaning about the $20 fee; and that they didn't like the color of their teams' t-shirts. One guy asked a general question of "this is bullshit...who's in charge of this bs"? I pointed to the the girlfriend of the victim and said "Over there. she's the g/f of the guy who's been in a ****ing coma for a month,, and who this tournament is for you ****ing douche bag".

I walked away; nothing escalated beyond that. and he didn't approach her.

I mean, JFC...you're playing a small little benefit with no ****ing 'prize' etc, to raise some bucks for her and her kid while he's trying to survive, and dudes roll out in full on beast mode. playing against 60 yrd old people on a team, and fattys like myself who were playing in jeans and motorcycle boots (having ridden down)

****ing pathetic. I've never seen such a large number of people in one gathering with so little perspective. Pathetic pathetic pathetic.

I've noticed many people sturggle to be effective communicators. So instead of making positive observatons, they say things like this: "this is bullshit...who's in charge of this bs"

A few of us started brew ball about 12-14 years ago, started out as a bunch of softball players that wanted more. No score, random teams, only rule is you need a beer at all times. lol we had a couple douchebags at a local town's tourny. Me and a couple of my friends decided it'd be fun to play slow pitch, we're highschoolers and all on our varsity team... This guy couldn't put one on the plate to save his life so we didn't swing at it... The whole team went ballistic and were on some mad rage... Yelling shit like "Don't they teach you kids to swing in high school" and some other stupid shit... We beat em.

I think its all about competitiveness. The will to win takes over and better judgement goes out the window.

I see it in the stupid ass King of the n00bs threads. Posters want to win. It's a stupid thing that doesn't matter one bit. But, winning is all important.

These softball douchbags just want to win. It's not really about softball.

We had a great fast pitch league in Topeka many years ago. It's so much more fun than waiting on that high arcing pitch. Plus stolen bases and pitchers that can get it to the plate at 80 or better. As BRC stated, there were few dbags in the league. Many guys played college baseball. And they all played hard, but had fun. It was always a Great time.

Greatest game other than real baseball on earth.

This is the softball I remember and it was about same for me when I last played. Heck we did it for fun our work sponsored the team. We would work all day out in hot sun with the ticks and ivy sweating. Get back in the office end of day change into playing duds spray a lot of right guard on to cover the stench. Seems like you guys did sorta the same thing.

I have rode bikes all my life mini bikes, trail bikes, motocross and road bikes. I learned that saddle bags and tie downs can haul most anything you need for a day ride. You couldn't have slipped a glove, tenny runners, shorts and kinda fit in? I never felt I had to look like what I wasn't and I wasnt in a MC. I ride for pleasure not for colors.

The guy we were playing for was a riding buddy of ours with whom we've logged hundreds of miles with (no homo). seemed only fitting to ride down there and play. Not nearly the same IMO.

have you seen Dayze's 72? lol...zero room for anything, tied down or otherwise. and Dayze doesn't own a glove. and playing in shorts and tennis shoes isn't going to make me play any better. I'm shit regardless . no leathers etc, just jeans, t-shirt, and boots.

I played fast pitch for 7 years. I would've played longer, but my elbow was turning to trash from throwing so much and rodeo on weekends.

It was more fun and challenging to me. Stealing, bunting, risers, curves and a few guys that threw nasty knuckleballs. Plus, the teams were all pretty close in talent so there weren't many egos running their mouths.
