AMC, Regal, and other chains are pulling The Interview

I'm pretty surprised at how gutless everyone is. I have no idea how funny the movie will be, but I liked the trailer and I was hoping to see it. I wonder how much they could make if it goes straight to on demand.

Wow, didn't expect that from him.

Technically they were threatening Japan considering NK's longstanding blood feud they have with Japan

Sony is doing this for themselves only. They are full aware of what was stolen and what can be released. Damage control.

Obama is speaking in hind-sight anyway. Easy to say now. If he was really concerned, he would have initiated that conversation, starting with the Govt of Japan.

Nope, I've never met him, although my dad did some shows with the Drifters in the early 60's and has always spoken highly of them.

Yep.

If NK were to release all of the internal emails, inter-office memos, etc., their film and TV divisions would likely be dead. I'm sure there exists emails that would be so damaging that the talent would never work with them again.

When I was at Paramount, there was a guy in the Tape Room that sent a email to one of his co-worker disparaging a company Vice President. Mean, aggressive and extremely insulting. It was also supposed to be funny (which it wasn't).

Unfortunately for him, he pressed the wrong address and instead, it went it everyone at Viacom instead of his friend.

You can guess the rest.

Statement from Sony:

Quote:
Sony Pictures Entertainment is and always has been strongly committed to the First Amendment. For more than three weeks, despite brutal intrusions into our company and our employees’ personal lives, we maintained our focus on one goal: getting the film The Interview released. Free expression should never be suppressed by threats and extortion.

The decision not to move forward with the December 25 theatrical release of The Interview was made as a result of the majority of the nation’s theater owners choosing not to screen the film. This was their decision.

Let us be clear – the only decision that we have made with respect to release of the film was not to release it on Christmas Day in theaters, after the theater owners declined to show it. Without theaters, we could not release it in the theaters on Christmas Day. We had no choice.

After that decision, we immediately began actively surveying alternatives to enable us to release the movie on a different platform. It is still our hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so.
We might get that grand wide-release VOD experiment after all. Movie studios have always been curious about how economically viable it might be to bypass the theaters.

Screenings and VOD. Alamo is carrying it. Hopefully the big boys like AMC reverse their decision

And NK has another internet blackout.

This decision was made because the US government intervened, not because of Sony or its leadership.

Sony still sucks.

A dipshit in has basement could knock out NK's feeble internet pipeline, and thats likely what has happened. US government doesn't need to DDOS.

Yeah, I thought it was the USA, but since NK was able to restore their internet overnight only to have it knocked back down again this afternoon, I think the DDoS is being done by some random hacker with a bot army, or a group like Anonymous. NK's entire internet structure is so tiny that it probably doesn't take the resources of a state to knock it out.
