Why is what Philly did worse than Pittsburgh?

The initial reaction to Philly pulling Hurts seems like it has been cries of how much of a "disgrace" it was. For example:

But how is that any worse than other teams resting their starters? Our game didn't matter, but Pittsburgh rested a few guys which almost certainly helped Cleveland get into the playoffs and forced the Dolphins to sit at home.

Just curious if there's some reason I'm missing that the former situation is so egregious while the latter is just normal.

Holy shit, the Eagles have $272 million in cap commitments for 2021, making them more than $70 million dollars over the 2020 cap.

While they can't really get rid of Wentz without taking a massive hit, it looks like it's time for Lurie to completely reboot that entire franchise.

That's gotta be a record.

So PHI will have to basically gut their roster to get under the cap, I'm guessing?

"Integrity of the game" is such horse poop. What this really means is "protect the bettors", which itself is contradictory to integrity of the game.

Teams should be allowed to forfeit useless games and tank seasons for drafts if they choose. Doing things above board is the integrity move.

It's freaking insane.

There's the Dead Cap if they cut the following players:

Carson Wentz: $59 million
Fletcher Cox: $21 million
Alshon Jeffery: $10.5 million
Zach Ertz: 7.8 million
Lane Johnson: $39 million
Brandon Brooks: 22.6 millin
Jason Kelce: $10 million
Brandon Graham: 17.2 million
Malik Jackson: 12.6 million
Darious Slay: $21.8 million
Jason Hargrave: $22.5 million
Jalen Reagor: $10.8 million

That alone is more than $254 million in Dead Cap space. For freaking 12 players, the most expensive of which is no longer in their plans.

And people around here bitch because Brett Veach "failed" to sign a 4th Right Tackle that's an All Pro...

Is that really the point? If the Giants and Redskins both had better records people could still use this same argument.

The Redskins are the least hated team in that division. Eagles and Giants fans hate the Cowboys most, followed by each other, followed by Washington.

I'm just upset because I wanted to see a 6-10 team make the playoffs. Would hopefully move the league one step further to eliminating the current playoff format as is.

The league's only concern is ratings and you can damn sure bet that last night's ratings on the East Coast were huge, which was the goal, all along.

That's nuts. Just look at the names on that list. Just based on roster, you'd expect that team to have won at a minimum 10 games this season, especially in that awful division. The fact that they couldn't win half a dozen games with those guys is an indictment against Pederson and his staff. And Wentz for that matter.

Philly benched Wentz for the game and started their backup (Hurts) instead. Hurts didn't play great, but the game was competitive entering the 4th quarter (17-14 WFT). They pulled Hurts and played their third-string guy (Sudefeld) instead, who looked even worse.

If Philly had won the game, the Giants would have won the division. Instead, it was a mess of a 4th quarter, and WFT ended up winning since Philly couldn't do anything to move the ball.

Everyone's pissed because it seemed like Philly was intentionally tanking.

Should have just played Wentz the whole game. If he wants a trade then prove it.

Here's the thing:

I couldn't care less about the NYG and their playoff hopes. They sucked all year, except on their DL, and I think they're a dumpster fire. They didn't deserve to go to the playoffs anymore than PHI did.

And I laughed out loud when I realized that Pederson had benched Hurts for sudafed, or Sudafeld or whatever. And I get why PHI fans and PHI players are butthurt about it. Because regardless of Pederson saying that "he was still trying to win with Sudafeld," it was quite clear that he wasn't. There's no way you can have watched that guy play in the 4th quarter and think "yeah, this guy might be able to pull this off." And how long as Pederson had to evaulate Sudafed? Years? He knew exactly what the chances were of Suda going in there and winning that game. Exactly slim and none, and Slim just left town like a year ago.

I don't know what Pederson was actually trying to do, but winning wasn't it. Neither was "evaluating a player." It looks exactly like a tank job.

And today, there's not a player, current or former, that has any kind of explanation for what Pederson might've been thinking. Not one.

At the end of the day, Pederson committed a cardinal sin against his players. He broke faith with his team. They fought to try and win that game, and were still very much in it going into the 4th quarter, and he knowingly took away any chance they had to finish the season with a W. And Pederson's job, before all others, is to put his team in the best situation to win every week, period. Everything else, including evaluating some reject QB, is secondary at best.

I believe he's a UFA come March. I wouldn't mind him coming to the Chiefs for a yr or 2. Hell, he may even be willing to come on the cheap just for a chance to play with Travis. Make it happen Burt Feepch!!
