I only say that because there are no guarantees. We've seem either boom or busts. If the guy pans out, great. If not, as an organization, the best prospect coming out of the draft that you depend on to make your team better, can set you back from both a personnel and financial standpoint. Kinda puts organizations in a bit of a landslide.

I'd like to see that economical aspect of the game change. Im more in the thought of, give rookies a certain flat base salary and reward them afterwards based on what they do later on in their careers.
I think it's pretty fair to pay up for top rookies. These guys have already been working for free making a ton of money for the people in charge in college. Now they're moving to the NFL and putting their health on the line to make even more money for their bosses.

Of course, I think they should get paid what they're worth and all. I don't think it's the responsibility of the NFL to make up for the blatant exploitation the players go through in NCAA. But from a perspective of whether or not I think it's "right" for a rookie to get a big chunk of change, I am fine with it.

Should the really rich NFL players get more money, or should it go to the ultra rich owners? Why should I care?

It should go to the veterans who have proven themselves.

this isn't really about Owners vs Players ... this is about Rookie Player vs Veteran players.

the salary cap number is the same, it's just whether the money should be paid to draftees or saved for veterans

Law students work pretty damn hard too. That doesn't mean that when they get out of law school, they get to make twice as much as a law firm partner. The fact that Matt Stafford is the second-highest paid QB in the NFL is beyond comprehension.

I thought one of the disagreements between the NFLPA and ownership was that the NFLPA wants an agreement that any money saved through a rookie cap would go towards veterans and retired players. On the other hand, ownership is not in favor of this agreement because otherwise they could pocket a lot of the savings from a rookie salary cap. Is this not correct?

Law students don't typically deal with the very real possibility of suffering a career ending injury the first time they step into the court room. Plus, college football players don't just work hard. They are used to make boatloads of money for the colleges and coaches. Not a good comparison.
