Even while McCluster succeeds, this continues to be my concern about that pick...

He is a gadget guy, yes. Who can provide tons of different things for your offense. And he's someone who can contribute immediately.

But is he someone you can build around?

I hesitate still, even now, to say yes.

What's the track record of really small football players in the NFL?

Don't they typically peter out after a few years? Even if they are very good -- as Sproles, a thicker back than McCluster, was very good -- won't they eventually flame out in a few years, rather than providing the sustained level of ability that virtually any other position on the football field would?

I am prepared to endure your scorn.

I get your point, and I agree to a point. However, I mean Eli freaking manning won a superbowl.
Eli Manning was unbelievably good that entire postseason.

Eli Manning is also unbelievably underrated around here...just like Tony Romo.

I suppose...

Take the playmaker, but be ready to find the next guy.
It appears they hit on Mcc, but it's only been 3 games.

1. The NFL is a right now league. You draft a player hoping that he will make an impact at any point in his career. You don't really have the luxury to expect that a player is going to be on your team for a decade.

2. The only glaring need is QB, and next year's draft looks to be loaded at that position.

3. Dex is the kind of player that can open up the field for the rest of the players because he commands attention.

I wanted Berry, Cody, and Clausen with our picks, but I don't know that I would trade what we got for those guys now.

I'm sorry but after seeing what NE has done with guys like Kevin Faulk and Welker, these small guys can make a huge difference while not breaking the bank.

Running backs flame out in a few years too. Should they avoid taking them?

The reality is that if there is a play-maker that provides your offense or defense something that you don't already have.... then you draft that player. The key is having an offensive coordinator that is imaginative enough to fully utilize him.

If he has even half the career Kevin Faulk had, it will be a good pick.

Warrick Dunn worked out fine although he doesn't play the same way as Run DMC,...Dunn was little and still ran between the tackles. He really didn't have too many issues.

Shhhhh!

I made that claim a few weeks ago and got railed for it. Any Pats' fan knows this is completely true. He wasn't flashy, but he's been a critical piece to that Pats offense for years.

You'd be surprised what a stout defense coupled with a stout running game and an average QB can do.
This post is evidence of how badly Carl brainwshed this fanbase.

Well, one direction I will disagree with is that a lot of people seem to be implying that the new NFL is focusing on aerial, high-flying offenses and that isn't necessarily the case. I think there's a lot to be said for getting your team to the Super Bowl with a dominant defense and a dominant running game. I disagree with the thought that we should even try to do that with average QB play.

But if we're talking about a dominant running game and dominant defense and a very good QB to serve as more of a game manager, I don't think there's any problem with that.

He's dominant right now? Granted, he was stellar in Cleveland.

I think Dex is going to be great and reliable for us for a long time. He will exede anything Dante Hall has done for us on ST returns and playing offense. I'm hoping he is utilized more on offense than on ST. Arenus is good returner.

I'd like to see Berry get a few kick returns to mix up the rotation & keep opposition off guard even more.

Our team is only getting better with every game we play. Wins will start to come in bunches as this team starts to click on all cylinders. We got so many young tallented players and 3 outstanding coaches to coach them up for sundays. I am stoked beyond what I was at the beginning of the season. Just gonna get better, maybe have a few set backs along the way, but this team will over come and learn. We got players stepping up like B Richardson, Studebaker, Belcher that wean't apart of much this team last year. Our O line is improved and our defense is also impoved. What more can we ask for at this point?
