Petrino in motorcycle wreck
He didn't die (hate to disappoint Hamas and the rest of the board who hate BMFP).

9:50 a.m. update: (from University of Arkansas Athletics Department):

Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday evening near the town of Crosses in Madison County, Arkansas. Arkansas State Police responded to the accident.

The university is releasing the following statement from Coach Petrino's family.

"Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time."

Jeff Long, director of athletics and vice chancellor, said he has been in touch with the Petrinos and added that he will consult with the family to provide additional information at a later time. Until then, there will be no further information or comment on the accident per the Petrinos' request.

Original report:

Joe Schad, ESPN's National College Football reporter says via Twitter this morning that a person close to Coach Petrino reports his injuries in a Sunday night motorcycle accident in Madison County are not life-threatening but he is "pretty banged up."

Schad also tweets that Coach Petrino could take some time to recover but that he's focused and determined to return to practice as quickly as possible.

Bill Sadler with Arkansas State Police confirmed earlier today that the accident happened around 6:45 along Highway 16 near the Crosses community.

The crash involved only Petrino's bike, Sadler said.

Petrino has been hospitalized since the accident and there's been no official report on his condition.

Bad news for Arkansas fans... I was enjoying watching a very good Arkansas team make the SEC West very competitive, rather than just LSU and Alabama. Sucks.

Probably referring to the fact that ASP Captain, Lance King, (who I know and is a good friend of the family's...yes... Arkansas is like that) went and picked up Petrino and gave him a personal ride. This is getting pretty ugly. Maybe it's time for him to enter treatment for something, and ask everyone for privacy during this difficult time.

Uh...that probably shouldn't happen.

It's much ado about nothing in this instance, IMO - but you can clearly see the appearance of impropriety it can create. The potential conflicts there are pretty apparent.

I'm not going to suggest that the ASP was complicit here, but 'the norm' should probably be retired if for no other reason than the potential for abuse.

Yeah. I've always thought it was really weird. They're the ones that escort him on/off the field (which makes sense and I understand having the same people do that over and over), but it's strange the way they've also sort of served in a lot of unofficial capacities as well.

The last I heard (and I haven't talked to my mom about it in a while), he wasn't a big fan of Petrino... or at least not of his personality. Of course, he went from working with Nutt, who was Mr. Charisma, to Petrino, who is a little.... dour. He may have warmed up to Petrino since then (I think that conversation was back in Petrino's first year).

I'm sure he'll get painted as Petrino's sidekick or "yes man" or whatever, which will be kind of strange.

That's the thing about scum - they never go down alone.

If Petrino burns over this, a lot of folks that were at best nominally related to him, will burn with him.
