Grade Pre-season Game #1

I am going to say C+.

The 1's looked good and get an A+ for the little time they played.

The 2's were so-so. Daniel was not good. Agnew??? Yeah, you drug it all down. #48, McDougald(?) was hitting and liked what I saw there. Jalil Brown...gots to go

The 3's weren't much better namely because of Agnew. Bray showed his arm a little but not much protection and had a sure TD dropped.

Special Teams had some good returns and we look improved there.

What impressed me the most about Smith was he was able to do what little we asked of Cassel that Cassel could not do. When he hit guys it was in stride. Hitting JC in stride out of the backfield is going to be deadly this season.

Some people, Clayton, were disappointed with the lack of downfield passing but some need to remember, Clayton, that the WC Offense, which I keep hearing we will run, is a YAC offense.

We will see next week if we take that step forward or like last year, start going backwards

You guys go ahead, you may well be right, as stated... it just one preseason game.

If Reid and Smythe arent able to outscheme teams dogging Charles and pressing the receivers, so be it, all hope is lost... but atleast dont claim that as fact until it happens, until its proven that Reid and co. dont have an answer for it.

If they dont, wooo you win... if not, then... not, then atleast we get an O that doesnt explode but hums.

If its too early to tell for me, too early to tell for you, but the early returns look good, theres no denying it.

I wasn't a fan of the trade, but it's a little inane to get your panties in a twist over a preseason game where he played for one (successful) drive.

BUT, one thing I say after every preseason game, good or bad, its just preseason. Nothing we see here means jack or shit.

I liked the tempo at which the offense moved we've never really seen that before. Alex Smith doesn't throw down field much but he's very accurate within 10 yards and I loved what I saw from Dontari Poe. If Poe plays like that all season this is a top 10 defense and the Chiefs steal a couple of games. Special teams was outstanding. Toub has made a difference.

Good point about the pace of the offense on that first drive. The fact they were able to change up the tempo and still operate efficiently was a good sign. It takes a well-prepared, confident unit to be able to operate that way. And of course, the idea is that it keeps the defense from changing personnel and staying fresh. That first drive lasted almost 7 minutes and a lot of the same NO groups were in there much of the time. You do that in the regular season and the defense starts dragging in the 3rd quarter.

Credit to Reid and the staff for getting everybody on the same page and to Alex Smith for orchestrating it so well.

Probably the game plan. People are making too much of this.

Perhaps. But Alex Smith has been that guy his whole career, and especially the last two years.

When it happens in a real game you might have something resembling a point (probably not), but in the first preseason game it is meaningless.
