I thought the fight was virtually even after the first two rounds. Looked like Wilder had more power shots, Fury more nobblers. Everything changed after Wilders eardrum broke...he was off balance the rest of the fight. Which makes sense because the inner ear regulates balance and can cause dizziness.

Fury was always the better fighter. But if Wilder cant regain stability to be able to connect with the right he literally can't win. Thats why I like Wilder. Hes an incredibly flawed, talented, but exciting fighter. We haven't really ever seen anything like him...at least of fighters that have been perrenial champion.

I never thought Wilder had a chance. Was just shocked to see Fury walking around the 1st round with his left no where near his chin. Fury has tasted Wilders power. Maybe hes just not worried about..

I called Fury in 6 in the Romper room thread

You could see it on the 2nd knock down. The body shot. You could see him losing his balance easily when he got hit. He had trouble getting up after the body shot like he had taken a shot to the noggin instead. His legs didn't want to help him get up due to the equilibrium being off.

But, don't take anything away from Fury. He had a good gameplan and stuck with it. He used his jab effectively. Used his weight effectively. Wilder needs to work on the boxing skills. He's a great fighter, but his boxing skills leave a lot to be desired.

Never having seen either of these guys before, I just thought Fury looked massively bigger than Wilder. And he's clearly just a naturally giant man. It felt like even if Wilder landed his perfect shot it wouldn't be enough. He'd have to do it all night without getting hit himself. I don't really know boxing and didn't see first fight. Just casual observation.

Agreed. I think its possible it would be a different fight though if Wilders eardrum hadn't been ruptured. Ask anyone whos had a ruptured eardrum...you cant really do anything physical of purpose very well due to balance. With that said...you dont let the guy whack you hard in the eardrum in the 1st place.

Wilder has never been a great boxer. Hes excited me so much because hes got further than anyone ever by just being a puncher. I honestly dont know if I expect him back but it should be easier to age as a puncher compared to being a defensive fighter.

Your first thought is wrong. Fury doesn't actually have a ton of power. And Wilder has been one of the smaller heavyweights for years. He usually fights at 210 to 217. For some reason he thought getting to 231 was a good idea. Wilder has much much more power than Fury, hes just not a great crafty fighter. Almost everyone was surprised at a Fury win that wasnt a UD. If you bet $1000 on a Fury KO you probably would have won 9k.

So after watching that fight and seeing Fury who other than sheer size doesn’t seem like a tremendous physical specimen, I have to wonder what a fight between him and Mike Tyson looks like. After the fight I went and looked at some Tyson videos and the speed and power doesn’t disappoint. It’s really phenomenal and to my untrained eye looks a lot more of a skilled fighter than Fury as well. So is the reach of Fury too much for Tyson to overcome or does his superior speed, conditioning, and skill win him the fight?

Hopefully Wilder finally gets a real training camp with a better coach and we'll see if he can come back from this.

He's 34. Really want to start with another trainer? I'd just take my millions and go buy an island to live on.

Sort of reminded me of the blow that AJ took for Ruiz, just scrambled his balance and he didn't look right after.

Think Fury would have dominated that fight either way, just would have gone a bit longer if that first knockdown wasn't the ear shot.

Fury was 256 lbs for the first fight, changed trainers and got up to like 270 for this fight. Had 40 lbs on Wilder. Adding a ton of mass was obviously a huge part of the strategy for the rematch and it clearly paid off.

I think he got some flack for it going into the fight. (He would be slower, etc)
