If Simmons is Clady, it’s game over for the rest of the league.

Thanks for playing, guys! Better luck in 10 years!

Exactly. If Simmons has Cladys career, that would be amazing.

Not sure how this comparison wasn't discovered sooner, but holy cow does it give me some serious hope for what we've pulled off here.

I don't want to think too far ahead and miss baseball season and everything else that summer has to offer, but man, it's hard not to be foaming at the mouth at the thought of how disgusting this offense could be this year if Simmons, Rice, ect all come back and play the way we all think they should be able to.

Why is this injury so rare? I’m not claiming to know much about medical. I just don’t understand why mcl and acl sprains or tears are so common and patella injuries are pretty rare. Are these injuries getting mislabeled? When I first started reviewing the draft, I loved Simmons. I believe his feet, movement and overall athleticism are elite as a prospect. There are questions about his competition but the traits are there. He’s got a good punch and good hands. His anchor seems ok, maybe some questions about that, but that’s pretty common for athletic LTs coming out. I was pumped about the opportunity to draft Simmons and even pounded the table to move up for him. Then I learned about the injury. I thought it would be more like an acl tear and I still don’t understand why from a rehab standpoint why the rehab or the ability to come back from this injury is so rare. This is a weird situation where there seems to be so much uncertainty about an injury. I hope burkholder is right.

Tore his patella tendon playing basketball in the offseason. Was 23 years old at the time he tore it in late April of 2010. Here’s what happened after he was injured:

-Didn’t miss a game in 2010
-Played 5 more years in Denver after the injury
-Was a pro bowl tackle 3 years after injury (2011, 2012, 2014)
-1st team All-Pro 1 year after the injury (2012)

This might be the closest example bc the kid was really young when he was injured, like Simmons.

Ryan Clady's injury was confirmed as a partially torn patellar tendon. Thus the quick return.

And there have been multiple rumors that this was the case for Simmons as well, and he also seems to be having a very quick recovery.

Unfortunately nothing substantiated. And his stated timeline for return has been much longer than the 3-4 month window Clady's was.

The die is cast. They drafted him.

There's really no sense in worrying about it. It's all upside at this point, we should be hopeful. This team has earned it.

It reminds me of Simmons looking really athletic and surprising everyone at his pro day at 5 months. That makes me feel like Simmons is gonna start this season since he will be 9 months removed from surgery when camp starts, as well as Andy calling it “more of a 6 month injury”.

Simmons mentioned Burkholder’s plan for him this summer. Wonder if that is getting his strength back. The 225 squat reported at his pro day was low obviously but I think that’s just part of the rehab to slowly building him back. I imagine they started much lower than 225 for rehab. Guessing here, but the athleticism seems fine. Would imagine his rehab is all about strengthening his quads, hammy and glutes to help take pressure off the patella and slow put more weight on it each month with a target for camp.

And actually the only instance where you really can say he was just as good as before the injury.
That sounds great but........ 31 GM's had that information. He fell from a top 5 pick to almost out of the first round. So.... what did they all miss and Veach didnt?
