He simply has no idea what to do with it. Open. Your. ****ing. Stance.

Get your hands back and stand up straight.

Meanwhile dipshit Jon Mabry is probably trying to teach him to shorten up and poke it to center. Afterall, we all know that everyone should be taught the exact same approach, regardless of skill set.

If Heyward doesn't come around by july, you have to fire Mabry. You can't let that kind of talent go without getting a different voice in his ear. You absolutely have to explore all avenues before quitting on a guy with legitimate HoF talent.

The last at bat he had tonight, it hit me, finally.

That's what he's being told to do with that pitch. Based on Mabrys history, it has to be.

He should be destroying balls up and in with his quick hands and leverage.

Frankly, I'd like to see him with Mueller only

If Craig ever had a chance to rebound, i knew it was gone the moment he took a fastball at the fists last year, flared it over 2b and Matheny cited it as proof he was coming around.

This team teaches one approach to all hitters and it neuters most of them, especially the stronger ones. It's a shitty approach if you generate power through force rather than quickness. Look at how loopy Peralta's swing is - he's a guy that is pretty openly ignoring what the team espouses and that's why he's doing so well. Wong, OTOH, uses insanely quick wrists and a Beltran-esque bat whip to generate his power so he can let the ball get deeper and still drive the hell out of it.

It's just a bad base philosophy, IMO.

It basically kills a zone for a hitter.

I hate it and hate that Mabry essentially teaches an approach that relies on babip to score runs.

Speaking of craig, if the Sox would eat some of his deal, I'd flip them a prospect and put him back at first, fire Mabry and let Mueller take over

Missed a cripple pitch in the AB before it.

He's just off tonight. It happens but you'd like to see the guys around him do a better job picking him up.

I actually don't hate the approach with Holliday. As he aged, he needed to evolve and this has done a lot to keep him consistently dangerous.

But the power was going to go on its own or come at a great cost as he had to start cheating around on balls to adapt to a slider speed bat. That's not the case with guys like Heyward and Craig before him.

I don't hate his approach, just hate that he isn't what he was. I wish players didn't age.
