I doubt that. Dalton and Smith are extremely similar players. Dalton is also on the last year of his deal and the Bengals are talking contract extension with him.

You're right that the Jets are crazy and unpredictable... but they tend to do that to make splash moves. Signing Alex Smith is only a splash move if he performs at an extremely high level this year and leads KC to significant playoff success... and in that case, the Chiefs would A) Certainly franchise Smith if necessary; B) Likely offer him the extension he's looking for

You're essentially saying Manuel is a young talented player with a ton of upside because he got drafted where he did. What has he shown, in terms of playing Qb in the NFL that he's worth that up to this point?

If he's a young talented player with a ton of upside, so is Fisher and we shouldn't be worried.

So positional importance aside, (comparing a RT to a potential franchise QB? Wow.) would you be OK with dumping Fisher next season and paying his 31 year old replacement - who has reached his ceiling as an average player - $18M per season?

I would personally sign Dalton, not to a huge deal, but if I were the Bengals, I'd keep him.

Smith takes his team to the SB if his return man doesn't shit himself, so let's not act as if Kaepernick riding his team just a smidge farther because his return man didn't shit himself is anything overriding. As for the rest, I'll leave it to someone else to explain how the markets work.

He's a LT, but still stands.

Again, it depends on this year. Teams aren't making this decision today, more likely a year from now. Over the past 3 years, Alex Smith has been a good QB. He's not elite, no, and I don't think he necessarily can be. But I don't think he's an average player either.

It's somewhat the whole Albert situation I.E Fisher.

I wouldn't. If they had a good QB they would have been the most dominant AFC team over the past 2 seasons. Unfortunately, Dalton can't get his head out of his own arse when it comes to executing in the playoffs.
