*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!
No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

Ran again today with very slight almost no shin pain. Zero pain in my right and almost zero in my left. Bumped it up to 2.9 miles in 30 minutes running/walking. I should've pushed it to a 5k run but not wanting to reinjure it.

Penguin, I don't want to have to go way back and find it, but you did say something to the effect of "cardio is a waste" right?
I don't know where you get that from, for one, high test cardio has worked wonders for me through the years, not "jogging", but heartblasting, side cramp causing cardio. Theres a good reason so many fitness instructors say to severely limit time between weight lifting sets, they want to get the heart rate up and keep it up for as long as possible, that's a fat burning recipe for success, its worked for me continually through the years... cardio counts, it counts a lot for overall health, I don't why you would say it doesn't. I may have been corrected on female physiology, but not on that. |

Got thrown into a wall in last night's indoor soccer game. Sprained my thumb pretty badly. Good thing I was planning on taking a month off of lifting. Good news is that you don't need a thumb to play soccer, but the bad news is that I can't even do my planned yoga for at least a week.

I haven't done steady state in years and I was able to drop 50lbs in 10 months with HIT sessions and my overall health is about as good as it gets. So it's not a default fat burning recipe nor does guaranteed guide to overall health. |

Endurance athletes have less problems than in general, up to a point. Once they start doing ultras and marathons all the time, then their heart problem rate drops back to that of the general population, but not below.
And yes, steady state can lead to muscle catabolism. That's to be expected. Your body wants to shed unnecessary weight so it can become more efficient at what you're asking it to do. The extent of catabolism will be determined by caloric intake, training and how long and intense that steady state training is. |

Theres no doubt in my mind it creates an incredible strain on the heart if pushed for distance, what I/many many people do is different... we blast out in short bursts, take a short rest then blast again... but it isn't prolonged torture on the heart and lungs. If theres one thing I HATE its long distance running, that shits just plain old unnatural... I circuit train to keep my heart rate up ie; short distance, high output followed by prolonged but steady effort such as my newly coined "picnic table jumping"... been doing it for years, just now gave it a name. Did my first bit yesterday, mostly just stretching and warm up jogging... it hurt like hell and still does, oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day. |

Speaking of working out...
I got the sickest ****ing pump in my biceps tonight. Felt like they/it were tearing the skin it was so huge. Almost painful. It was absolutely crazy. Never experienced a pump to that level before. I'm pretty jacked that the workout is progressing to this point so far. |
