BWillie is the dumbest of the dumb.

Chiefzilla is pretty stupid too. For supporting cast around Mahomes we have the GOAT TE, a WR that was a 1st round pick in 2021, a WR that was a 2nd round pick in 2022, a WR that was a 2nd round pick in 2023, a guy that went for almost 600 yds and only started 4 games last year with a shitty QB, another guy that is good for 600-800 yds, one of the best pass catching RBs last year, and another RB that if given the chance is easily a top 10 RB.

Yeah we're devoid of talent and will definitely not score, because we don't have Juju anymore. He was the glue.

Also think Riddley and Riggs were very good WR’s but made terrible career altering personal decisions.

Seems like recent history suggests the top 35 or so picks is the best place to look for prime talent there.
Brown, Adams, Kupp, Metcalf, Deebo, Higgins, Allen, Godwin, Lockett, Watson, McLaurin, Pickens, Pittman, etc.

Again, there is obviously a difference, especially when you're talking top 15 pick vs. 2nd round pick or day 2 pick, but once you get to the Chiefs range especially, there's basically no difference.

That isn't to say that there's no difference whatsoever, but it's not significant, and not nearly as significant as zilla is making it out to be.

If you're regularly taking WRs in the 2nd, you're doing just fine in terms of investment.
Yep.

Initially, public opinion largely stood with Rodgers against the Packers because they didn't spend a 1st rounder on any non-QB offensive position since Derek Sherrod. But count not only how many 2nd/3rd round WRs were drafted but how many of them were HUGE hits? Jordy Nelson, James Jones, and Randall Cobb accounted for most of Rodgers' passing yards for years and years. And that's not counting old man Driver and Greg Jennings in the Rodgers era that won a Super Bowl.

And it's completely stupid how some are acting like the world is coming to an end even though Kelce is continuing to kick unbelievable amounts of ass as the true #1 of this offense while we're only in year 2 of development for all of the new guys to step up into.

It’s pretty obvious that Both Philadelphia and Cincinnati have improved more than the Chiefs this year. And if San Francisco finally has even a semi competent quarterback that can survive, they join the teams that are just as good if not better than the Chiefs.

We are still in the hunt. We are definitely good enough for that. And hopefully we will be lucky again.

I am too new to this board to be able to start threads, but I really would like to see a thread about why people think the Chiefs are going to be better than the Eagles, the Bengals and the 49ers. Not saying we won’t be competitive. But I am saying this overstated confidence is not warranted.

Hope there’s some discussion on this. It would be good if somebody who is able to could start a thread on that topic. Like I said, I can’t. And it really doesn’t belong in this discussion about Hopkins.

How in the world can you credibly claim that we won those games on the back of “luck” when our generational talent at QB was playing on one leg?

And how have both of those teams clearly improved more than the Chiefs this offseason?

Lmao wut. Aside from Chris Jones, who are we paying on defense? We literally traded Tyreek and drafted like 6 rookies that played snaps on defense last year, then turned around and drafted more this year.

Here’s the way I see it.

We have a dangerous weapon in Toney. Ideal would be the slot on a snap count. And can’t plan for him to be available in all games.

We have an unknown in skyy. Would love to see what he can do as WR2 but I just don’t see him as WR1. Hope I’m wrong.

I like the potential of rashee but realistically 2023 will be an ease-in year.

Mvs, James fine situational players. Justyn ross fine as another development option.

I dont regret anything I’ve said. I think we have a deep bench. Messy at first but yeah we can match last years talent which is good enough. I also think good chance we end the year without a consistent WR1. If we don’t I think it will become more apparent if kelce shows any regression/misses any time (his age is something we must take seriously), it will be missed in low margin of error games like cincy and buffalo, and once we land one people will be floored at how much of a difference it makes. So yeah, even if it’s a bandaid (my preferred route), it closes all those gaps at once and at the right price can easily be worked into our cap and does not stop us from developing our players according to my above read.

It’s definitely hard to grasp how some continue to not understand this. I’d love to have D-Hop but honestly I’m already over it if it’s true he’s looking to cash in. Hard pass if it means we’d end up losing Sneed or Bolton or both. He can pound sand. Veach is well aware where his game actually is. He has the film and he has the inside info. He’s not going to overpay, nor should he.

I have immense faith in Toney and Moore, the only thing I am mildly concerned with about them is injuries. Otherwise, I see what could be a very dynamic set of WRs for Pat that he has 3 more years to build chemistry with, not to mention MVS, Rice, James and Watson and a bunch of other guys with potential.

This is just how you do it if you want sustained success. You don’t throw your cap into hell for aging vets. You get the ones like Smith willing to play for peanuts to rebuild their value and then let someone else overpay them. If anyone was throwing money at Hopkins, he’d be signed already. He’s hoping someone gets desperate like they did with Beckham, but I think he’s in for a long wait.

To be fair both teams MIGHT have improved more, we'll see, but it's a damn sight easier when you're not yet paying your QB top dollar and you have a top 10 pick like Philly.

Some of you guys are looking at these individual moves in a vacuum. That's not how it works. If you lay out the cap space for a Dhop at market value, it negatively impacts multiple other spots. It requires you to go cheaper elsewhere. We used to pay Hill; and so we had Dan Sorensen's and Ben Niemann's taking significant snaps. We were overpaying Clark for his production, so we had Austin Reiters and Wylies starting at OL. And that was mostly before paying Mahomes.

If you pay Mahomes, Jones, Thuney, Taylor, and Dhop, you've got like 40% your cap left to fill your other 48 spots. And it doesn't better in subsequent years, and you're going to have to let all of the good young players you've developed walk so you can pay aging stars.. So you're mortgaging '24 and '25 to try to win in '23-when it's entirely possible that it's not necessary, and you've got as good a shot as anyone at winning the SB in '23 as it stands.

This is partly why we didn't invest so heavily in the WR room prior to letting Hill walk; we had serious, gaping holes that needed addressing. So WR took a backseat and we rolled with Hill and Kelce, betting that would be enough. And it was...until it wasn't.

Every move affects everything else. Would Dhop be a nice piece to have? Of course. But at what cost?

It appears that Veach, Reid, and Mahomes think the young WR's are talented enough and ready to step up. Ideally, they're right-and they've been right much more often than they've been wrong. There are enough numbers they're throwing at the WR room that it's highly unlikely they strike out on ALL of them. The 'floor' is the '22 WR room. I think it's entirely reasonable to expect this group to outperform that one.
SPOT ON !!! You have played the game my friend! You have "true football EYES" !!
