Hollywood is bringing back 'The Lone Ranger' in 2012!
As my avatar suggests the Lone Ranger was a boyhood hero of mine.
Clayton Moore perhaps could never be dethroned as the best Lone Range EVER. Hokey as their episodes are I can still watch the old lone Ranger and Tonto galloping on Silver and Scout to help the oppressed. That said, for a few years now, I have had this idea that we needed a Hollywood remake that adults would enjoy too. One that would get a Batman treatment for a darker, edgier Lone Ranger. This Lone Ranger would shoot to kill, instead of just shooting the guns out of the bad guys' hand. I really hope that Hollywood will not cop out on this. Thoughts?.... Cast suggestions. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1210819/ |

And why is The Lone Ranger pointing off in the distance slightly to his left and Tonto is staring more off to his right? If Tonto were truly faithful, he would stare in the same direction that The Lone Ranger is pointing.

Tonto is looking at the bad guys. The Lone Ranger is posing for the cameras.

Now that said, I've only really seen him shine in two roles, Seth Bullock and Raylan Givens. Maybe he just doesn't have much range? Although I did like his couple of weeks on The Office. Never watched Damages, so I didn't see him there. |

Don't get me wrong: I like Olyphant and always have. It's just that studios need a bankable star for a big budget film and if Depp were a secondary or tertiary character, they'd need a bigger name to top line the film. |

Take Avatar and the risk inherent there. James Cameron is obviously the biggest name involved, but Sigourney Weaver is basically the only major name star in the film. Sam Worthington was somewhat known but untested. Zoe Saldana had done a lot, but wasn't a big name. There were a ton of bit players, albeit really good ones, like Lang and Ribisi and CCH Pounder. But no bankable star. Huge risk. And still they made hundreds of millions. But the lesson hollywood seems to take from that film isn't about creating stars or unique property or storytelling (I say storytelling because to me that's the key of the film - it's not a good story, or an original one, but the way that lackluster, unoriginal story is told is what makes it), all the focus seems to be on 3D and CGI character- and world-building. Of course it could have flopped, and flopped biblically... And now we're right back where we started, rehashing old property, repackaging the same handful of stars over and over. Because there's less risk. Not a complaint so much as a commentary... It is what it is. It's sort of like going for free agents over rookies in the NFL, because it's safer to go with what you know. |

There are plenty of "original" films coming out every year, so personally, I don't think there's a problem with updating a classic hero like The Lone Ranger, especially when he's been all but forgotten to modern audiences. I doubt they'll make a film on the same level as "True Grit" but it should have broad appeal, nonetheless. Oh and get ready for the "Terminator" reboot. Universal and Justin Lin, who's been hired to direct the Highlander remake, are days away from an announcement, so I'm told. |

Looks like it might be Ryan Gosling as the Lone Ranger...with Depp as Tonto.
Solid choice....Gosling is a solid actor who also happens to have looks. http://www.thewrap.com/movies/column...e-ranger-26523 Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Disney's "The Lone Ranger," TheWrap has learned. It's early, and Gosling's schedule might not permit him to take the role of the Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Gosling is starring as Logan in "Logan's Run" which is scheduled to begin production this fall. Also read: Verbinski Re-Teaming with Depp on 'Lone Ranger' "The Lone Ranger" is a big movie: Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, is directing the adaptation of the durable franchise for producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The Lone Ranger started as a radio serial and was later turned into a TV series. The Lone Ranger is a masked lawman who, with his Native American friend Tonto, fights injustice. Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels starred in the "Lone Ranger" television series form 1949 to 1957. "Revolutionary Road's" Justin Haythe is writing the screenplay. Gosling was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the 2006 film "Half Nelson." "The Lone Ranger" is scheduled to be released in 2014. |

At least he is not a midget. As much as I do like Ryan Gosling, though I just do not think he has the face of the Lone Ranger.
