According to NFL Network

The Chiefs first pick will be at 13. Washington is putting together their ammo to get this done.

Carolina traded up from #43 into the 19th pick when they selected Otah.
Big difference than what was previously described.

That's NOT top of Round Two to the bottom of Round One.
That's the difference of 24 picks!

People like to say that. It's not true at all, though...not by a long shot. If it were true, a team could trade their picks for rounds 2-7 for first round picks for the next 6 years.

So how true is this rumor? Did they act like it was a done deal?

Or is the deal done?

Or "The Deal IS Done?

McCloughan Claims Seven Top-Ten Teams Want To Trade Down
Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2009, 5:23 p.m.

It has been rumored for weeks that several teams drafting in the top ten want to trade back.

On Wednesday, 49ers G.M. Scout McCloughan confirmed it.

McCloughan said during a media briefing that seven teams in the top ten want to trade down. He knows this because seven of the nine teams have advised McCloughan that they’d be willing to trade down.

He thinks that two players could help such deals happen — USC quarterback Mark Sanchez and Alabama tackle Andre Smith.

The fact that so many teams want to move down underscores the out-of-whack nature of the rookie wage system at the top of the draft, especially in a year with a relatively flat talent pool that doesn’t feature a presumed can’t-miss prospect.

You can disagree, you're just wrong.

Go look at past trades. Teams who are trading back into the 1st round deal a 2nd plus a 1st next year. If a 1st next year is only devalued by 20% then they're giving up way too much.

Carolina traded #43, #109 and a 2009 1st round pick to move up to #19.

#43 = 470pts, #109 = 76pts. 470 + 76 = 546 which is equivalent to the 35th or 36th overall selection. ie. The top of round two.

Okay, so you think that Miami's second round pick last year is worth the same as Detriot's #1 overall pick this year? If a pick's value drops by a round each year, these two picks should be of equal value.

Your scenario is flawed and reeruned. The trade has to be made a year in advance. There are no guarantees. A year ago Detroit had the #17 overall selection - no one knew their 2009 1st round pick would be #1 overall.
