No, shoving a cop is justification for a cop punching the offender.

The past record gives us a hell of a lot of insight into how said offenders were behaving in advance of the recording. Wanna bet they didn't just apologize for breaking the freakin' law and walking across an incredibly busy stretch of road when there's a damn pedestrian overpass nearby?

To characterize this as an overreaction to jaywalking is to simply ignore the fact that the offenders in question fueled this entire situation by putting the officer in a position where he had little choice but to defend himself with violence.

But I'm sure these innocent little flowers did nothing to engender said angst.

The cop should not have punched the girl in the face. That was absolutely the wrong thing to do. He should have pulled his gun and shot her until she backed off. Period.

Here's what we now know about the two "kids" in the video - 19-year old Marilyn Ellen Levias and 17-year-old Angel Rosenthal:

Rosenthal was charged in November with second-degree robbery. According to prosecutors, she punched a 15-year-old boy in the face while she and a group of youths were on their way to a rave in South Seattle last Aug. 28. The boy told police that his cellphone and $20 were stolen in the incident. A 14-year-old boy told police that he was punched in the head and his hat was stolen.

The charge was later amended to theft of a motor vehicle. Rosenthal was given a deferred disposition — charges would be dropped if she stayed out of trouble — because it was a first-time offense, said Ian Goodhew, deputy chief of staff for Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.

Levias was charged in February 2009 with third-degree assault after she allegedly pushed a King County sheriff's deputy down.

According to charging documents, on Feb. 3, 2009, deputies were called to the Ruth Dykeman Children's Center, a Burien center for troubled girls, in response to a report that Levias was being abusive toward staff. When Levias was confronted by Deputy Amy Zarelli, she pushed the female deputy, causing her to fall, charging papers said.

Levias was given a deferred disposition because it was a first-time offense, Goodhew said.

Next time just tazer the bitch and we wont need to have this discussion. The only reason why this is even an issue is because the punch isn't standard police procedure that we are use to seeing, so it looks abusive.

I would have bet my life that these girls had a past record based off of the way they were acting about being harassed by that police officer...

and that's exactly what it was...

and the cop was engaging in a shoving match with the first girl...and the girl in the pink was just sitting there doing nothing...and then they continued to cat fight and she stepped in like "what the ****" and then he squared up and jacked her in the face...

Why does everything have to come back to race? I have been in fights with Blacks, Hispanics and whites and never was race an issue (on my part). The issue was, I thought they were an asshole and they thought the same about me. End of ****ing story. She assaulted an officer he had every right to defend himself. She could have had a knife, a gun, anything. My only problem is the officer will get away with it (justifiably so) but your typical citizen would not. If anyone of us were the cop in that video we would be in jail.

Watching that again ... you guys aren't going to believe this ... and, maybe I'm wrong, but I swear I think that's the same cop who lit me up for making a late-night, emergency right turn from the left-hand lane into a Seattle Jack-In-The-Box a couple of years ago (perfectly safe, no traffic, last second decision). He pulled me over in the drive thru lane. Searched the rental car from stem to stern including the trunk. Asked me if I had paintball guns. Crazy ass guy. After he let me go, he was boxed in and had to wait until we ordered and received our food. Looks just like the guy.

Does Seattle have a problem with late night paintball attacks?

That wasn't a shoving match reerun. She was resisting him and her friend decided that she wanted to try and help.

If I was the cop....I would have tazed them both.

Funny how the guys just sat there and did nothing. In fact.....the first guy was trying to hold her back from doing anything.
