Do you have a good reason to bump that thread?

Lately, we've had a few users who think bumping threads from years ago is fun for them. It's nothing new necessarily but the mod team has had more and more complaints on the matter. At least 2 people have been banned over it. So we wanted to make an announcement. If you are browsing the archives and decide to bump an old thread to the front page you should have a very compelling reason and state it in your bump post. Otherwise, you may risk a vacation. This rule applies in the lounge area at this time only. It doesn't seem to be a problem in subforums.

Some comments from Direckshun's thread which he obviously spent some time writing:

Where was this idiot last year when we beat the Packers?

Or how about some comments from another rare recent football thread started by Micjones about our first game and the gameplan:

The whole Cassel, and to a lesser extent Pioli, schtik is really getting old. None of those comments garnered a laugh from others. They are just there junking up threads making it difficult for people to actually engage in football discussion. It really discourages people from trying to legitimately discuss football and the upcoming season. It is no wonder that the best sport discussion on this board occurs in the Royals Repository and Royals game threads.

Actually, given that it is the Royals, it is a wonder.

Oh absolutely, right there with you. But at least the Chiefs have made the post season in the last 2 1/2 decades. You would think the discussion on the boys in blue would be just as bad if not worse than discussion about the Chiefs.

why let that crap bother you? this place is cool. I dig it. sure, there are some heavy duty assholes in here, but who cares. skim over the posts you don't dig and move on. I don't find myself NOT enjoying a good football conversation just because there's a cat fight in the middle of......some good conversation.

Guess the gas thread is off limits.

glad this doesn't apply to the other forums. I bump old threads in the media center every now and then. Not just to bump but because I played a old game or watched a movie and I contributed to the thread. The same would apply in this forum. I sure hope you are being realistic with this Phil. You know how badly people love to bitch when people start a new thread even though there was another out there that could have been bumped.

who gives a shit!
But that's just it, there isn't a whole lot of good football talk. When there is one I enjoy it as well and I like it here too and it is one of the first things I check because it provides a lot of good news and other related info. But I am sure people get discouraged from creating topics or posting in threads, ESPECIALLY, and God forbid, they want to talk about how maybe Cassel will be okay this year with the team around him. Personally I don't let it bother me, which is why I am typically in the threads for the most part, but I can see how others, who might otherwise be good football posters, don't participate. Those quotes in my post were all within the first 15-20 posts of the threads.
