I am about to start running to shed the pounds I've gained. I used to enjoy it in Basic, when I wasn't smoking, but, like a dumbass, I started back up after.

I quit for 9 months doing 2 things:
1) I bet a person I respected that I could go longer than them. 2) Every time anyone ever mentioned smoking I lied and said "I've never smoked. Never tried it." Yes, I got all kinds of strange looks but it works. No matter the subject if you lie to yourself long enough you'll come to believe anything...

Removing yourself from situations where you want to smoke helps as well. In an awkward party and it sucks and you crave a cig? Leave that bitch...do something fun. help someone...change that state of mind.

I think lots of times I stayed in the state of mind because that was familiar. I would rather sit in self pity and be a martyer than actually make a phone call/go for a walk/take action.

March the 4th at 6:51 was the last cigarette I will ever smoke. It has been extremely easy. I took Bupropion 300mg a day. I have been off of that stuff for a week now. I still am not having cravings at all. I simply don't want to smoke anymore. My wife still smokes. We always have smoked outside of the house. I have had to do some major cleaning in my vehicle to handle the old stale smoke smell. I bought a new ashtray even, which helped a lot but I am thinking about going to a smoke restoration specialists and having them fill my truck with fog while my fan is running to circulate the fog through the vents and everything. Headliner may have to be replaced too. You really can't clean them very well.
Smoking just messes everything up.

I haven't chewed since mid-Feb. It's probably the 20th time I've quit. Sometimes I quit for a couple weeks, couple months or a couple years. I chewed some herbal stuff for a few weeks but that was even more expensive than tobacco so I just chew a lot of gum now.

So this attempt, a year and a half ago, was a complete failure. I never went more than 2-3 days without cheating, and finally gave up.
However, I quit smoking 3.5 weeks ago. I've only cheated once. At the two week mark, I bought a pack, smoked three cigs, but then tossed them. It was amazing how different they tasted and made me feel. I'm using the patch, so I still have the nicotine crutch, but it's been great. Changing my habits, etc. I don't plan my day around when my next smoke break will be, I have more time, I'm more engaged, and I obviously have given myself a huge raise. |

I haven't smoked in three weeks. I quit cold turkey. I am reading a book called the Easy Way to Quit Smoking. It's written by this brittish dude named Allen Carr. It is ****ing wonderful. It goes into the psychology of nicotine and the brainwashing of cigarettes. It doesn't go into any health effect bullshit or anything else. You can smoke when you read the book.
Get the book dude. It will blow your ****ing mind. Go to you tube and search for "Quit Smoking Advice - Allen Carr." It will give you an idea of what it's about. If you do this, you will not look at quitting the same way ever again. |

I'd gone roughly six months without so much as a puff, then had two-three while I was on a five hour binge at the roulette table over the holiday weekend this month.

I have now not had a cigarette for 9 years. Hardest thing I ever did was quit. Good luck to you.

Swiched from cigs to an e-cig in April of this year. Started at the highest nicotine level and have dropped down to the second lowest level. When I get my next bottle of juice I will be at the lowest level of nicotine you can get.
Had a few smokes here and there but have not wanted to go back. Go luck to anyone trying to quit, it's one of the toughest challenges you will face.
