Tyrann Mathieu reiterates he wants to stay in Kansas City at NFL Honors

Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu — a nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award — joined NFL Network on the red carpet ahead of the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Mathieu is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after three seasons in Kansas City.

“Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” said Mathieu. “We created so much history the last couple of years... I want to be in Kansas City, and I think everybody knows that.”

There is a twitter video but I am unable to post it here for some reason Follow link below.

Mathieu is so emotionally soft. It’s annoying as hell. He plays the victim role nonstop and tries to act like everybody is against him. The guy doesn’t even live in reality. I like him on the field, he’s a good player. But yeah his production is indeed replaceable. He’s not Ed Reed like he tries to act like.

Agree! He has as big a mouth as Ramsey but nowhere near the same ability on the field. Please don't give him a lot of money. He is very replaceable at this stage of his career.

He's not worth his price tag anymore. He will get a big deal probably but we need pass rush more.

I don't think he's as good of a leader as people on here make him out to be as well.

The way he responded to Hitchens instagram comments makes me feel like he talks bad about Chief fans to certain teammates. That's not the type of leader we need here in KC where fans are such a huge part of the Chiefs organization and have been since the 1970s.

It's time to move on. Plus, like others have mentioned, he's not that good anymore. Just not worth the money/headache.

I'm not paying $16 million a year to an over 30 year old safety who calls the fan base toxic one minute and then applauds them the next.

Dude is bipolar.

I agree with that too. The radio heads like Fescoe and turds all just sit around praising Mathieu's leadership all the damn time as if it's something unique and irreplaceable. He brings energy absolutely. Teammates probably like him and he's at the very least passionate on the field. But I can assure you that others can fill those shoes when called upon to be the vocal leader.

Chiefs don't need a raw-raw guy. They need an on field enforcer. And maybe somebody who isn't butthurt 24/7 googling their name or searching it on Twitter immediately after games like a thin skinned emo kid.

I hope a team offers him a deal he can't refuse and Chiefs don't want to match. I hope we play against him because Tyreek would over opportunity to blow right by him.

That losing streak this last season showed a lot about some of the guys on this team. Yeah, you can complain about how the fans act but ALL fanbases do that shit when the team is losing.

I hope the monitors are relaying our takes and thoughts in this thread. Along comes DJBILL telling us he heard from his butt ****ing friend neighbor that Tyrann will be back or sign with another team.

I have noticed lately how players seem to always think the fanbase they play for is just the worst thing ever. It seems to be the in thing to think your fans are just terrible. Some of these guys lack perspective. It's a fans job to support and also criticize if they feel like it. It's the players job to focus on doing their part on the field to the best of their ability. Players seem to think they should be untouchable these days.

Veach being smart here. Tyrann letting his emotions do his business.

Bret letting him test the market may show Tyrann he isnt worth what hes asking for OR someone will pay him that. I would think the Chiefs have a higher value on him than other teams, its just not where Tyrann wants to be.

Veach says, Hey see whats out there and then we'll talk. It saves the Chiefs cap space either way.

For the record, I love Tyrann and would love to see him back. He did NOT play up to his normal standard last year and that does scare me a little bit. Is he in decline or was his contract situation a distraction?

Spotrac says his market value is around 15Mil. Some teams have so much money to throw at him that he'll likely get what he's wanting. He'll just end up on a shitty team and he'll be angry all the time cause frankly he's just never happy.
