Consider the QB. Quite frankly, I don't see him as a starter or ever being a starter, Daniel Jones I'm referring to here.

Which one? Both?

As WRs, they aren't similar at all.

Not sure where you were looking but Richie James draft profile states he ran a 4.48 40. Also has an impressive 6.87 3 cone

The 4.59sec was somewhere in this thread, I think. Or Google.

My point was that they aren't of a similar stature or speed. Which automatically makes them useful for different purposes. For example, you wouldn't put Wes Welker/Edelman on the edge and have them run go-routes. Likewise, lining up DK Metcalf in the slot and having him run a whip route or a come-back isn't the best use of his abilities.

I really think that Richie James is a pretty good signing for the Chiefs. He is not the size of Justin Watson but James's speed is 4.48 in a 40 (Watson was 4.42) and James does a good job of tracking and going for the ball. I think Patrick Mahomes will enjoy having him as a WR. Richie James also had a catch % of 81.4% while Watson only had a catch % of 44.1%. Justin Watson might still be re-signed, but adding Richie James is another good move by Brett Veach.

if they are expecting one of the Ross's to make the team, does this mean we are basically set at WR?

MVS
Toney
Skyy

guaranteed to make it

Not sure what type of deal James got, has that been announced yet? I'm sure that can factor into whether he is guarnateed to make the team or not

then one of the Ross's or a draft pick or trade, unless they wanna go with 6 WR's

Chiefs just need guys who have a high catch percentage. Mahomes will get the ball to hit their hands.

We are in a real unique position.

Rules for Chief's WRs with Mahomes:
1. NO penalties
2. NO fumbles
3. If it touches your hands you better catch it.
4. You only need a step of separation for PM
5. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER give up on a route or stop running.......NEVER!
6. Listen to Andy Reid, PM and the coaches.
7. No showboating, taunting or calling out your competition.
8. It's NEVER about you, it's about the team
9. No bitching
10. You get to catch passes thrown from Patrick Lavon Mahomes II, the greatest QB of all time. You better be grateful.

So it seems like the Chiefs are going to give Toney and Skyy a real chance to shine. Can someone tell me why that’s a bad thing? Those guys were high picks for a reason. They both could end up being incredibly big time playmakers.

Each will be here for 3 more full seasons together at minimum. You throw a 1st or 2nd rounder into the mix and your top 3 WRs are all under contract for 3+ years. You draft a RT high as well and you have young tackles and receivers locked up for 3-5 years each. You put your faith in this other worldly coaching staff to keep developing players at the unreal level they have, because they’ve proven they can. You have vets like James and Watson and MVS around to fill the gaps.

And you just keep winning.

I didn’t know he was in the receiver room now.

Up to the draft I was surprised he didn’t test faster. If he isn’t actually very fast, I can’t imagine WR is going to be better for him.

I was hoping he’d fill the McKinnon role.

I really think that, while James is a totally different player than Watson, he fills a similar role which is: insurance. Veteran insurance.

Veach and Reid have said they're expecting Toney and Moore to play big roles. Everything they've done thus far says they're serious about that.

But you need an insurance policy, in case Toney gets hurt again, or Moore does, or one or the other struggles for whatever reason. And so you grab James, who's in a similar physical mold, has some experience in this offense under Kafka, and gives you a baseline of professional receiver.

He's WR4, and can function just fine as that, and you're not screwed if he has to play more than that.
