The Chiefs are discussing a contract extension with L'Jarius Sneed

$62m ain't nearly enough. Jones plus $30m is going to be laughably short. I really don't think it's the way to go. That's a LOT of guys on their way out if you do it.

And we've only got 5 draft picks at the moment.
I want to trade Chris too. I just don't get people saying we can't trade Chris and be active in FA. Of course we don't want to spend massive money but you can spend decent money to get a WR.

Hopefully they trade Chris before FA starts. They need picks

You're repeatedly wrong. I'm occasionally wrong, and freely admit when I am.

But I'm right more than not.

Veach's job is to build a championship caliber team. He's done that, every year, and in different ways every year.

One thing he's not done is sign an over 30 player to a top of the market deal.

I guess they extended Thuney. That's a long way from Jones money.

We'll see.
I mean he has cap hits of 26mil the next 2 years so.... Not that far off.

But, if you are Veach and you have planned on signing them(aka Creed) long term, its best to do it this off season and spread the signing bonus over another year to lessen cap hits in coming years. You have $28 million in cap space saved with Jones alone.

We won't be picking up any big money FA. We need to spend our money on the quality guys that are going to walk out the door in the next 2 years.

It's a no brainer, tag and trade Jones. Use the draft capital to move up and take a good WR. Spend his $30 million in cap space signing the other players you don't want walking out the door.

Whatever maxim you think I have is obviously your cognitive issue.

You sign Jones, you have to let Sneed and Bolton and Gay walk, and you probably don't have a left tackle. You think that's the way to go. I don't.

You just said Veach has not signed players over 30 to big deals.

Under your rules we would not have Kelce or Thuney last year.

But the bigger mistake you make is lumping in Chris Jones with Gay, Tranquil, etc.

Those guys are nice stuff but they aren’t star difference makers.

Now I do agree you can’t keep Jones and Sneed.

Chris Jones has more value than Frank Clark had at his 20 million contract despite the fact Clark wasn’t 30 he was already playing like a dude that was 35.

The way I see it if you can want to keep a balanced build you keep Jones and let Sneed walk.

If they decide to move on from Jones I think they should just let Sneed go too and use the resources to build an elite offense again instead of a good defense and a a mediocre offense.

Sneed will likely get 20m aav this offseason. He’s extremely versatile and fits all defenses and has one of the most impressive seasons on record right now for effectiveness against top WRs.

The dude has erased every elite WR he has faced this year and even broke a couple.

Sneed should not get that $20 million kind of contract. He could not participate in TC or preseason because of his knees. He gets a lot of penalties as well.
Bye Sneed.

DL needs help. The players I seen brought up were DE. Who are we gonna have at DT if Jones leaves? Of who else if Jones stays?

According to OTC, we have almost $52 million in cap space for 2024. If we sign Jones to an extension his first couple years are going to be cheap. If we tag him we would still have $31 million in cap space, OTC says the franchise tag number is just under $21 million for either a DT or DE. We are just going to stick with those numbers instead of the stupid contract things that are not obtainable and missing games stuff that hurts his contract value and all that other swamp of possibilities.
Several of the guys you mentioned will be cheap, either by position or their depth level of play.
We will probably get a comp pick or 2 for losing that many players as long as we don't get too heavy on the FA spending early.
Donovan Smith, Sneed, Danna, Tranquill, and Hardman combined might get us a 4th and 6th.

You can't cut Thuney. It'd cost $21m.

They pushed a bunch of money on to next year's cap with his restructure.

This is why I'm not a fan of pushing cap dollars forward.

Now we're going to have to make decisions we'd rather not.

But I don't see how we can have half our cap tied up in 3 players.

And Kelce's not a huge contract. $13m is a bargain for his production.

I would trade Kelce? I would cut Thuney? Please show a post that I have ever stated each of those points. You won’t because you can’t which just reiterates my point of you just never being right. At least you can throw out names since you have no real argument.

Also I would let Jones walk if he’s looking at $30+ million a year for his 30-33/34 years. If he’s reasonable I would love to keep him for the rest of his career as I posted earlier today. But, you know, you do you and keep downvoting my posts (as if I really cared) vs debating your position in good faith.

There are no 'rules'. It's not that simple. The only rule is the cap, and what you have to do to get under it, and what the consequences of that are.

In extending Thuney, they got his cap number down to $13m this year, but it balloons next year to 26m.

There's a real problem here, and it'll be interesting to see what Veach's plan is. There's an awful lot of good players up, and not much money.

I don't know what he's going to do, but I sure can't see tying up half your cap in three guys.

I'm sure there are plans and contingency plans.
