And BTW before another idiot asks about what the other 31 teams didn’t know, 31 teams weren’t looking for a LT. So the real question is what did the other 4-5 teams miss? I don’t know maybe the same shit they missed on Trey Smith or Creed or McDuffie or any other number of value picks we drafted. |

Andy reiterated that he thinks Simmons will be ready for camp. This doesn’t seem like a redshirt season at all

But teams were scared of the injury and couldn’t afford the risk. Or they hate nose rings. Or they just wanted other players. There are a zillion reasons, man. None of them have to be an indictment against Simmons. The draft is a crapshoot |

No one needs this reminder from you or anyone else. The skeptics all WANT it to work, because the die is cast. Quote:
No, it doesn't. I was never as firm a believer in that as some. The redshirt component seemed to be folks who were mostly in the pro-Simmons camp.

I am with you, and completely fine with that. I think it's 50/50 to ask a healthy, rookie LT to win the job over a four year veteran LT, but odds are very slim a rookie LT recovering from this significant of a knee injury would win the job. Everything I've read on a full tear points to year two as the litmus test.

Trying to motivate players is part of the gig, and he may be ahead of schedule but that doesn't mean he's a penciled in starter in front of the newly signed LT FA for 30 mill for the next 2 years.

Balto et al...
Nobody is going to sit here and claim "I told you so" over stupid shit. It really is just one of two outcomes... He either beats unforgiving odds, plays, and becomes a rock-solid player, or he succumbs to those odds and never turns into much of anything. Those of us who were against taking him in round 1 were against it because, given the injury type, the latter is much more likely than the former. But with that, all of us are on the same team, now that the Chiefs made that move, in the hope of the former. Nobody is sitting here saying, "God, I really hope that Josh Simmons kid busts so we can wipe it in everyone's faces when he does." That's absolutely ridiculous. This isn't and never has been a talent question, at least in speaking for myself. I think he showed enough talent in college to be a very good LT prospect. This is not the same as my criticism of Veach for drafting Willie Gay based purely on athletic traits over Logan Wilson, who had the production to go with solid, albeit lesser, athleticism. That was a talent issue. And with that, I haven't personally been overly critical of too many of his picks. |

Like you said, it's hard for a rookie to win an NFL job, harder still for one who hasn't played football in almost a year. Especially when said player simply didn't play high level competition last time he was on the field. That said -- if he wins the job, that's fine. It would mean that Moore disappointed fairly quickly or that he exploded onto the scene. If Moore disappoints, its a good thing we have Simmons. If he explodes on the scene, Moore turns into an expensive insurance policy. I don't think it's likely that Simmons gets the job but if he does...aight. At that point you just hope it goes well. Because I think it was Andrew Whitworth who once said "The only thing harder than earning a job in the NFL is keeping it..." Winning the job is step 1. Hell, Kinglsley won a job. Skyy Moore won a job. So you hope the pedigree plays up and the guy's NFL ready; if not on Day 1, then fairly quickly. Because the musical chairs shit hurt us just as badly as the performance in a vacuum last season. We really don't want to be trying to build the plane as we're flying it. If he's the day 1 starter, it needs to be based on his ability to play on day 1. And if we're wrong and we have to turn back to Moore, that's gonna set us back a spell. That's about a worst case scenario. Which is ultimately why I think Moore will have an edge going into the season. There's just a lot more on film for him against NFL competition. He's a LOT easier to project for the first half (or more) of the season.

Good stuff here from Reid on Simmons and a few other players at OTAs. Seems Simmons surprised them a bit, and they might ramp up his participation. |
