I’m inclined to believe Andy will start Simmons bc he did that very same thing for Kingsley a year ago.

Wanya was going to start on opening day but was injured. Kingley was still dark on the playbook, and it showed. The kid was just all over the place in run block mode when Pat had audibled to a pass. It was obvious when he would block, then release the rusher and move downfield to block. That kid was never ready to start, but Andy had no choice.

Kingsley basically took Wanya's job before the injury

If the guy we got from the Niners plays well maybe they can try him at RT. Jawan Taylor is not living up to the money he's being paid and is a penalty machine.

WebMD?

I’m sorry, are you referencing the research piece linked from PubMed?

Because they’re not the same thing. PubMed is an aggregator run by the NIH that links to articles from the leading medical research journals in the world. Getting published in a medical journal is hard. Getting your medical journal piece then linked to PubMed is harder. It’s the highest standard a piece in a medical journal can face.

Like the one from the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine that looked at this injury from 2009-2023.

You thinking that’s the same thing as WebMd… well, actually that would track with your demonstrated inability to read and comprehend anything more than two sentences.

It would be a very pleasant surprise if Simmons can claim the job out of training camp and another indicator that he is going to be an outlier like Ryan Clady or Cornell Buckhalter.

In that situation, I think Moore would be an option at LG or RT, leaning towards LG.

It’s an open spot featuring a lot of competition. Moore has some things about his game that seem to indicate he could be a high-level LG in a passing offense, and it would keep an experienced player on the same side as the rookie.

Simmons/Moore/Humphrey/Smith/Taylor could be a good alignment, in that case.

Or Moore/Suamataia/Humphrey/Smith/Taylor.

Or Simmons/Suamataia/Humphrey/Smith/Moore.

Or maybe someone else not named Mike Caliendo wins the LG job.

They’ve created enough competition that it’s hard to say, but it’s exciting.

By far the highest upside situation would be Simmons claiming LT and Suamataia winning the LG role after competing there with Moore, Caliendo, Hanson, et al.

I know it would be nice if Jaylon Moore were to win the right tackle spot but as previously mentioned in this thread he was dogshit at it in SF.

I think he's eventually just a backup swing tackle like he was in SF

I do think that if Simmons gets the LT spot, the natural move is for Moore to move inside to LG.

He just seems far more comfortable on that side of the line. Also, in SF, he utilized more 'horizontal' pass sets, which are going to be what you see more often from an OG than an OT; at least an OT in Reid's system.

That's really the ONE question about how Moore will translate. We've seen him do vertical sets some, but it's not how SF tends to do things. It was my biggest concern with Thuney kicking out to OT as well (more than even the size) -- can he get vertical and maintain his balance/power through contact.

Thuney used a lot of Guard footwork out at OT. Well honestly, Moore was doing something similar in SF but doing so by design.

And as Duncan noted, having some veteran experience alongside Moore can't hurt.

Now will Moore be content with that? Maybe...maybe not. You might have a pretty irritable player on your hands -- 2 seasons at OG instead of OT could seriously impact Moore's earning potential if he gets back on the FA market.

And you're almost certainly gonna get another round of musical chairs on the OL come 2026 when Taylor walks (though wouldn't it be ideal to see Kingsley slide in at RT rather than Moore?).

But all that's a problem for a different day. I think if Simmons can take/secure the LT job, the best plan is to give Moore a shot at LG and really lean into developing Kingsley further at RT.

I'd just play Kingsley at LG and be done with it.

Ideally, you'd have Smith do something at LG, then you're cheap everywhere but C and RG.

Draft a Rt.

Next years tackle class looks pretty good, especially at RT. I’d like them to look for a deal in FA or just get one early. Wouldn’t be mad at all if they took another tackle in rd 1.

I hope they add OL again next year though. Another IOL in like rd 4 or 5. That would be helpful.

Nah. Another day 3 OL doesn't move the needle for me. We have a LOT of developmental OL guys. And if we extend Smith we're fast running out of places to put them.

Wanna target a R1 right tackle? I could get behind that. But I don't see the point in more Nourzads or someone else who is two years behind Kingsley on the development curve. I think LB and DB is likely to be the best approach for Day 3.
