Schefter: Steelers Contacting Teams to Trade Big Ben for Top 10 pick

http://twitter.com/adam_schefter
Pittsburgh has begun contacting teams to trade Ben Roethlisberger for a top 10 pick. At least one team considering it. Story far from done.

He's got the biggest, puffiest, moon-drunk face ever. If you look strictly at his face, he's got the face of an alcoholic.

I know more about the Tahoe incident but I'm not going to share. There are certain people in the forum that are convinced that she's a nutjob, regardless of what I've been told directly by people that worked with her.
I've heard from several sources that Big Ben is also cited in a shitload of divorce proceedings.

Actually, it's amazing he hasn't gotten his ass kicked yet. I don't know how many wives you can mess around with before you get caught by the wrong husband.

Boston lawyer Harry Manion told WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show on Tuesday that Manion was involved in an investigation regarding another Big Ben incident.

Said Manion: "[T]here is a history here this is just super troubling."

Manion specifically referred to an incident from 2009, also in Nevada. "Six months ago I was retained by a client of mine and a close friend to investigate allegations against Ben Roethlisberger in a Las Vegas nightclub that were absolutely identical to this Georgia girl's story," Manion said.

Manion believes that, if Roethlisberger ever is going to change his ways, the near miss in Georgia will be the impetus.

"Unless he's totally brain dead -- and we don't know -- he would be scared," Manion said. "Because he has really walked a perilous line here. There's a whole litany here, not only my experience, I have connected with several other people that have experience. And you know, there's only so far that he said/she said will get you. There's only so far that paying hush money will get you, if hush money is paid. And there's only so far that, 'Gee, we're celebrities, we have a target on our back,' will get you. When you see this much smoke, month after month and continuously . . . . It's the scene that he's gotten himself caught up with, and the belief that he can walk, and so far, so good. But it's hurting him. He's hurt. He has been damaged. And the next one, the wrath of God's going to come down on him, if there is a next one."

Basically his cloak of invincibility has been taken away. If he screws up again he would have to be an epic moron.

We'll see.

Will he stop being so blatant about being creepy around women? I'm pretty sure he would.

Will that stop him from drinking? Will that stop him from being creepy privately around women? And will this case make him an open target for women to accuse him of crimes he didn't commit?

All it takes is a semen sample from one future encounter, even if it was consensual, for Big Ben to be under the microscope again. I don't think he'll ever escape this again in his career.

I'm not a "win at all costs" guy when it comes to rape.

If the guy had a DUI, big deal.

Rape?

No way.

I realize you have much more info. about all of this, but my opinion would be different if he were convicted or even officially charged with something.

In absence of either of these...

But I reserve the right to change my opinion as more information is presented.

It's difficult to prove rape when alcohol's involved and even more difficult when the accused is paying off the accusers.

If BR didn't have these cases hanging over his head, there's no way that Pittsburgh would ever consider trading him. And I've been told that they know MUCH more than what's been released publicly.

Hypothetically Would you have traded for OJ Simpson once he was acquitted if he was in his prime?

If he wins the Chiefs a bowl I really don't care, I bet we can find people that will lineup to let him molest them for a Super bowl in return.

I do have to agree, there is likely more than the public knows going on to cause the Steelers to want to trade him.

It also could have to do with Steeler fans thinking (rightly) that the team is bigger than any one player and they hate the negative pub after the years and years of nothing but love and the fan revolt is forcing the issue.

Easy to do when you are a perennial winner.

Listening to the radio this afternoon, they were talking to a Pitt reporter. According to him, Pitt is really a small city team that cares a ton about their fans and what the fans think. According to this guy, ever since the 2nd allegation became public Steeler fans have been writing to the team like mad, people have been sending all of their Rothlesberger jerseys back to the team and their has been a huge public outcry against him. The reporter was saying that Ben wasn't all that popular before the 2nd incident. People more or less tolerated him because he won 2 Super Bowls but he was never really liked because he's an ass.

From what I've heard at least people I know is, they are pretty pissed that they want to get rid of Ben.

The Steelers care about image, that's nice, image doesn't win games.
