The NCAA is the one that ignored that history in not holding a tournament or a title game in 2020. The clear best team (KU) in that season should not be penalized for that. They are just as deserving a champion as any of those college football poll champions pre-1998.

I feel like KC Connection has completely forgotten that Nebraska actually had to split the National Title in 97 with Michigan because of the fact that they didn’t have a true national championship….so yes, Nebraska fans should be very well aware of how fraudulent their record books are.

On the contrary, I was hoping somebody would point this out. Nebraska “split” that title because the AP determined Michigan was #1 while the Coaches determined Nebraska was. In contrast, 2020 KU was an unanimous #1. Nobody disputes that they were by far the best team that year. In that way, their title is arguably even more legitimate than 1997 Nebraska’s.

College Football and College Basketball are two DIFFERENT sports and have always had different systems in place to determine their champion.

I mean, I get why you want to ignore the PAST 80 YEARS of college basketball precedent that has been established as the ONLY way to determine a champion. I get it. I do. But let’s just call it what it is instead of making these half baked comparisons between basketball and football that have always used different post season systems to determine champions.

But you keep beating that drum . . . . . . . .

When the NCAA chooses not to hold a title game for reasons that are outside of KU’s control, we can only work with what we have. It’s not a perfect solution but it is the only solution. Just as AP and Coaches voters did for decades in college football, they are more than capable of doing the same in college basketball for one unique year. In doing so, KU was voted the best team at the end of the season, and as such, were the true champions of the 2020 season. A self evident fact if there ever was one and we even have the t-shirts to prove it.

Nebraska doesn’t get to claim a title because it had a controversial “win” against Missouri that year. They were coasting at #1 in the AP until that game and the AP poll definitely took into account the controversial decision. Mizzou is actually the reason they can’t really claim a national title that year.

1-2 record against non-conference top 25 teams in 2020. Wouldn’t really call that unanimous. They didn’t really beat anyone of relevance besides the series split with Baylor that year who was literally the only decent Big 12 school that year. No one outside of Lawrence would consider them a unanimous champion of 2020. They may have earned a #1 overall seed, but everyone knows what KU and Self typically do with those.
