The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Man. I don't know if it was the 90 minutes I spent in the gym yesterday or what, but the elliptical kicked the dog shit out of me today. Level 17 resistance on days I do nothing else usually comes very easy for me. 30 minutes on there was an absolute ass kicking today. Followed it up with a 2 mile run, the last 1/4 mile I ran fast at about 6.5 mph.

My shirt usually is soaked when I'm done, but today it looked like I swam with my shirt on. Love it!

I don't really know a whole lot about calorie burn, but from trying to track it with my h/r monitor I'm discovering that the higher my heart rate, the more I burn. For instance, when I play an hour of Rockband on a Sunday in which I don't go workout, I'll burn about 300 calories if I'm playing balls out difficult songs. The same song set on days in which I bust my ass at the gym I burn upwards of 700 in that hour.

Learn something new every day. I really ought to do some research on all of this so I can maximize my efforts.

When I lift, the proportion of weight I lift on my legs is ridiculous compared to the rest of my body. My legs are ****ing strong, but then again, after carrying around 450lbs for all those years, they better be.

I weigh just under 300lbs, but when I flex my legs, I can see the bulge in my quads. All of the flub just rolls off to the side. LOL, that's kind of gross, but it is what it is. My calves are ridiculous. It's the one place where I can look to and see progress in a big way.

You ate 1,100 calories today and probably burned at least that many through exercise, + BMR.

The next step is anorexia.

Never. I'm looking forward to getting back up to the 2500 calorie a day range. This ma'****er loves to eat!

FTR, 1150 is incredibly low. I very rarely do that. I try to get in at least 1300-1500 daily, and oftentimes end up at 1700-1800. I figure the 1100 days just even out the 2000 days. They both happen about as frequently.

Now that I've discovered I can handle protein powder with just water, I'm trying to drink a protein shake every day. 150 calories for 26g of low fat protein is a trade off I'll happily take. I'm going to cut those 100 calorie energy drinks every day to balance that out.

Back when I was running 10 miles per day, she was really in shape! She'd run them all with me. That was fun. Now she's a bit out of shape because I don't run outside any more. We just take her to the off-leash park twice a week.

Yeah, you probably will never be able to do that again. Sorry

At least, not on average.

Yeesh. Even with working out? I figured my BMR at 210lbs would be upwards of 2000, and I'd burn at least 500 in the gym every day.

Oh well. At least I'm learning how to live on less now. By the time I'm ready to start eating "normal" again, whatever it is will probably feel like too much food.

My BMR right now at 298lbs is 2689. Does that sound right to anyone in the know?

Yeah, even with working out. The reality is that you will end up cheating once you get to your target weight, so you'll have to consistently aim for less.

I aim for 1400 per day because I know that I tend to eat more on the weekends when I go out and stuff. Even at 200 lbs, your BMR won't be over 2000, and you won't be burning nearly as many calories in the gym as you are now.

That's a really good point. Bank those extra calories for days in which I overindulge. It happens.
