Teicher: Chiefs’ Haley puts together coaching staff

Chiefs’ Haley puts together coaching staff
By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs now have a staff of assistants to work with new head coach Todd Haley. In keeping with their new policy of hiding as much information as possible, the Chiefs wouldn’t disclose the duties of their assistant coaches.

But they retained Chan Gailey, who presumably will continue as offensive coordinator, and three other assistants from the staff of former coach Herm Edwards: Bob Bicknell, Joe D’Alessandris and Tim Krumrie.

Haley also hired seven new assistant coaches, including Gary Gibbs, the likely defensive coordinator. Gibbs, 56, spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.

The head coach at Oklahoma during 1989-94, Gibbs has also served as linebacker coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

The other new assistants:

•Joel Collier, who has 17 seasons of NFL coaching experience. Collier most recently was the secondary coach for New England during 2005-07.

•Steve Hoffman, a 19-year NFL coaching veteran. Hoffman spent 16 seasons as the kicking coach for the Cowboys before moving on to special teams duties with Miami and Atlanta.

•Bill Muir, a 31-year NFL coaching veteran. Muir most recently spent seven seasons as Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator and line coach, though he didn’t call the plays.

•Clancy Pendergast, who was the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals for the last five years.

•Pat Perles, who has spent most of his coaching career in college other than two seasons with the Rams in the early 1990s. Perles spent the last four seasons as the offensive coordinator at North Dakota State and recently was hired as offensive line coach at Ball State.

•Dedric Ward, who played wide receiver for eight NFL seasons. He started his coaching career at Missouri State in 2006 and was an offensive assistant for the Cardinals for the last two years.

Judging from the backgrounds of the new coaches, one likely offensive scenario has Gailey joined on offense by Ward (wide receivers) and Bicknell (tight ends). Muir, Perles and D’Alessandris have backgrounds coaching the offensive line, so it’s unclear what their duties will be.

On defense, both Gibbs and Pendergast have been coordinators and coached linebackers. Krumrie will likely remain as the line coach while Collier could coach the secondary.

Hoffman would be the special teams coach.

Brent Salazar and Cedric Smith were also retained from Edwards’ former staff as strength and conditioning coaches.

Through the Chiefs, Haley refused an interview request to explain his decisions.

Haley’s staff
The returnees: Bob Bicknell, Joe D’Alessandris, Chan Gailey, Tim Krumrie.

The newcomers: Joel Collier, Gary Gibbs, Steve Hoffman, Bill Muir, Clancy Pendergast, Pat Perles, Dedric Ward.

Hey Mr Brilliant, you're right, the philosophy has been a dismal failure in New England. Carl Petersons land of openess and pleasing you all with his press releases was a huge success.

as far as your obsession with giving blow jobs to men perhaps it is a sign you are past due on your usual fill.

when you are losing an arguement, it doesnt help prove your point by talking about mens penises and sucking on dicks, even if you are perhaps an expert on that. That is probably another thread in another forum.

Try talking about football when discussing football and maybe you'll have a chance to show your football genius.

I've come to the conclusion that Pioli told each individual their prospective place on the staff, then informed them that they weren't allowed to release that information until a time of his choosing, therefore giving him the opportunity to find the leak in the ship early in the rebuilding process.

Or he just doesn't give a **** what people think.

its interesting how being optimistic about the Kansas City Chiefs is somehow a bad thing on a Kansas City Chiefs message board.

And having confidence in the new hire is a bad thing.

But you are such "great fans" im sure the Chiefs are lucky to have you.

Yeah, FAX......don't you know that Pioli is the SOLE reason behind NE's success?

Listen, dumbass.

I have never been one to simply accept decisions simply because the person/people in charge made the decision.

I am certainly not going to change simply because it's the almighty Scott Pioli making the decison.

I am not saying he has made the wrong decisions, nor am I overreacting and saying we're doomed.

It bothers me because I don't need some dumbass who is just willing to accept decisons telling me that I have no right to question those decisions.

My, we are an argumentative little spud, aren't we? Look, Zombo ... all you have done is criticize other posters for no reason. The fact is that I think you may be a little crazy. Nevertheless, as I said before; no one on this board (that I know of) has lost faith in Pioli. The lack of information coming from the Chiefs fosters both speculation (some of it outlandish) and unease (because in the absence of information, peeps tend to imagine the worst). It's human nature. But, then again, I suppose it's possible that you may not be entirely human.

As for the football conversation, that's exactly what was transpiring until you showed up. And, as for the dicks, I just assumed that because you were the whiniest bitch in the entire world, you enjoyed the company of men. And, because you are undeniably stupid, I figured you would be forced to seek that company from the population of our less fortunate brethren.

Anyhow, you've made quite an impression, I'll give you that much.

Im not really concerned about what impression i make. Im not obsessed with the Rep point insecurity. And I didnt say the things i did for no reason. People WERE throwing up their hands in a panic.

I also felt, and feel, that having lived in New England and experienced exactly what is going on right now, that I have an insight on what im observing from the Chiefs front office that perhaps you folks, having lived in the world of Carl Peterson for so long, do not have.

This is no different to me than 2000 when people in NE had to get used the secrecy and the odd way this guy Belichick did things. Pioli was right there with him and hes doing it the exact same way.

So when I hear the panic and the early assessment of doom Im going to comment. Sorry if that rocks the negativity boat around here.

But as was pointed out in after your first post in this thread, no one had overreacted yet in this thread, yet you felt compelled to generalize about fans in this thread based on posts from other threads that had no bearing on the discussion in this thread to that point.

I reacted to you generalization.

Had you not been such a dick to start out in this thread, I would have had no problem with you.
