****Official Weight Loss and Exercise Thread****

I know that TinyE has the CP Weight Loss Challenge thread, but this is a new beginning for me. No losing weight for prizes, as that motivation ended on July 1st. This time I'm doing it for me. My goal is 75 lbs. Slow and steady wins the race. This time, the prize will be a whole new me.

Anyone else still battling the bulge? Here, hopefully, you can find more encouragement and tips on diet and exercise. Feel free to talk about discouragements, setbacks, frustrations, etc as well. We're here to help...at least I am.

Yeah, but will she satisfy all sexual demands without being too slutty about things, and essentially keep her dumb ****ing mouth shut?

What's wrong with slutty? As long as it's all directed at me, I'm good with slutty.

All I'm saying is, the only girls with good personalities who are smart or maybe funny or halfway intelligent or talented, though god knows what the **** that means, are ugly chicks.
And this is because they have to make up for how ****ing unattractive they are.

No. She stopped a long time ago. She never really read it much, unless I told her she needed to read something on here.

I'm sorry you don't believe in them but they work fantastically well for those with the fortitude to stay with them.

These three blogs are fantastic in explaining why this way of eating is not only safe but preferred:

http://www.paleonu.com/

http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/

http://blog.zeroinginonhealth.com/

This post in particular addresses the long term safety:

http://blog.zeroinginonhealth.com/?p=1433

I have been zero carb for almost eight months with no health issues at all, except for the fact that my health is getting better and better. My blood pressure went from 145/90 to 110/63. My blood work is excellent and shows I basically have no inflammation in my body. I have lost 30 pounds eating when hungry (no starving or counting calories) and very little (okay - no) exercise (my last update).

I get zero fiber and have no "bathroom issues" for the first time in my life. My stomach also doesn't constantly hurt, which is something I have dealt with my whole life.

Zero carb has been life changing and life saving. I don't post much about it because I would come across as preaching because I am that enthusiastic. It is also my experience that most people aren't willing to take a hold of their health to that extent (I was told by a woman last week that she would rather stay fat and sick than give up her fruits and vegetables).

If it is unhealthy, at least I will feel great up until I die and leave a thin corpse.

Nuts have plenty of fiber. Eggs are high in vitamins and minerals. Our ancestors got their vitamins and minerals from the meat they ate, because they ate animals that ate the fruit. I only eat free-range meats if I can, because they're higher in those vitamins and minerals. Still, I supplement with a multi-vitamin. And my vitamin and mineral levels are just fine. I know this, because I had my doctor do bloodwork and check to make sure

I do wonder if there will be any long term side affects of low carb diets..... just my own curiosity.
There shouldn't be. Our ancestors evolved just fine on them.

I'll say this.... you are very persuasive. I have done some additional research on it. I don't want to do it right now, but when I really go to cut up.... I may give it a shot. I may try to work it in for the family, as I think my oldest daughter is insulin resistant.

Anyways, I will never just sign off on something that I don't agree with. But, please don't get offended by my argumentative side, because I appreciate the exchange of ideas.

I'm not going to argue against Atkins diets. I tend to that different people have different nutritional needs. I try to live by the Pollan rule:
Quote:
Probably the first two words are most important. "Eat food" means to eat real food -- vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and, yes, fish and meat -- and to avoid what Pollan calls "edible food-like substances."

Here's how:

1. Don't eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. "When you pick up that box of portable yogurt tubes, or eat something with 15 ingredients you can't pronounce, ask yourself, "What are those things doing there?" Pollan says.
2. Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients, or ingredients you can't pronounce.
3. Stay out of the middle of the supermarket; shop on the perimeter of the store. Real food tends to be on the outer edge of the store near the loading docks, where it can be replaced with fresh foods when it goes bad.
4. Don't eat anything that won't eventually rot. "There are exceptions -- honey -- but as a rule, things like Twinkies that never go bad aren't food," Pollan says.
5. It is not just what you eat but how you eat. "Always leave the table a little hungry," Pollan says. "Many cultures have rules that you stop eating before you are full. In Japan, they say eat until you are four-fifths full. Islamic culture has a similar rule, and in German culture they say, 'Tie off the sack before it's full.'"
6. Families traditionally ate together, around a table and not a TV, at regular meal times. It's a good tradition. Enjoy meals with the people you love. "Remember when eating between meals felt wrong?" Pollan asks.
7. Don't buy food where you buy your gasoline. In the U.S., 20% of food is eaten in the car.
He sums it up as "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

I know the mostly plants thing flies in the face of Atkins folks, but I just don't require that much meat. Love it when I eat it, but I don't feel the need to eat it everyday.

Doesn't bother me at all. Iron sharpens iron and all that.

I don't even try to be persuasive. I let the science and facts do that. We're always learning. I know I don't have the same view on it that I did a few years ago. What we know is always evolving, and holding on to antiquated ideas is nothing but counter-productive.

I'll just say this: Meat is the reason that we beat out the Neanderthals. They ate only plants. Our ancestors ate meat, grew bigger brains and evolved to hunt meat. It's in our DNA to eat meat.

Doesn't mean you have to, but I think that meat is essential for humans.
