This. You were posting about it in the game thread so I know you watched it, but the Chargers pressured Rodgers way more than the Phins did to us today. How did that workout?

I'm at the point where I don't even really get excitd one way or another when this team wins or loses as long as he is at qb it won't matter.

I personally think its psychological with him going back to his USC days. I call it the backup syndrome, its the fear of getting your shot but being too afraid of making a mistake to take full advtange of your opportunity. Its why he doesn't force many interceptions, its why he freaks in the pocket, he just thinks about it too much. Cassel has played his best when we are basically in a 2 minute no huddle mode, just sort of backyard style play is when he has made alot of his best plays. Basically not thinking about the play and letting natural talent take over.

This is very true. I think its been beat in his head so many times not to make a mistake, that he is terrified of making a mistake.

If anyone can watch the undefeated Packers play a complete game, with the defense they are putting on the field, and tell me it isn't necessary to have a franchise qb to win in the league I'll eat my hat.

I'm so ****ing sick of this as a Chiefs fan.

1st half - no, 2nd half yes. 1st half he dealt with the pressure - he was running and was keeping his eyes downfield (thus the throw over the LOS). 2nd half the pressure got to him and he completely choked.

Nobody is arguing that is what happens to Cassel. I'm surprised he didn't go fetal in the 1st quarter. With a clean pocket he can be an above average QB. With a bad pocket (today) he's one of the worst QB's in the league. No reason why Stanzi hasn't been active to take snaps in the 4th quarter of games like this. Stanzi should have 3 quarters of play under his belt.

Absolutely.

I also think that's why they don't let any QB competition get even somewhat close...they don't want him to go into a "here we go again, I'm gonna lose another QB competition for the starters job"

Ive probably mentioned it a dozen or so times but I think Matt Cassel could be a good player in a full blown shotgun spread offense that runs no huddle most of is not all of the time.

Something similar to what the old school Bills used to run with Jim Kelly.

Dont think, just play.

The guy knows the playbook...shoot him the plays similar to how PM did (send him 3 plays and let him choose which one to run)

When we get our guys healthy we will have an offense similar to the Bills in the K-Gun. Charles could thrive in the Thurman Thomas role.

Cassel locked in on his first read and never went through his progressions once today. Again.

The line sucked complete ****ing ass, and he was running for his life most of the day, but he missed numerous throws, and was throwing out of balance all day. He didn't throw a good ball when he wasn't completely comfortable in a clean pocket. And there weren't many clean pockets today.

It was a brutal game by all involved.

In the playoffs, should we be fortunate enough to make it back there this year or next, we will NEED a quarterback that can expose defenses that try to blitz a lot like Miami did today.

I keep saying it and Ill say it again now.

You either beat the blitz in this league or it beats you

and keeps beating you

Yeah, uh, minus the Jim Kelly role.

That's like Spielberg saying he's going to remake Saving Private Ryan with the original cast, except that the guy from the Earnest Goes to Camp movies will be playing the role of Captain Miller.

Let me know how that turns out.

Cassel is going to be shooting his little gun at the big Patriot and Steeler tanks pretty soon.

So I am watching the Steelers - Ravens game and Rothlesburger just avoided a sack and completed a 20 yard pass and my wife, who knows very little about football, says "How come when Cassel gets away from being tackled he just runs the ball? I thought maybe there was a rule or something saying he couldn't pass."

All I could get out was "Because he is a career backup."

It is the answer, IMO.

Either he can handle it, or he can't.

And my guess is he can't, and we'll get a new ****ing QB in here.

I've had enough of this safe, play just well enough to get yet another year uncontested at the position.

Shit or get off the ****ing pot.
