DJ Moore to Chiefs?

Rumors are coming out he wants out of Carolina. And one of the teams coming up are the Chiefs

What’s your thoughts?

Yeah, that's an issue for sure.

They're not going to get a LT that is viewed to be completely complete product without paying to move up.

But a move up from 32 to 22-23 is possible. Yes, it is difficult to get the superstar, franchise LT at that point. But finding a guy who can play the position at a strong level, even if they do need a little help at times?

That's much more likely in that range.

And for all the talk about this not being a great LT draft, I think that there are some guys who can/would be in range for KC who fit the Chiefs' offensive proclivities well. Like Zion Nelson or Anton Harrison.

There's 3 or 4 guys with sure 1st round grades right now. We'll have to wait and see but it's not unthinkable.

Reality though, we're probably looking at a lateral move in the short term if they don't bring OBJ back.

This is a good point.

If you want a no-holes, can-do-everything LT, those guys go early and often.

But do we really NEED that? I say no. We need a plus pass blocker, period. That makes it more plausible that we could find a guy later that just has some question marks but is a good pass blocker.

If you want to offer a 1st or 2nd though they’d be fools to turn that down. But again we aren’t giving them that for the guy
He'd cost about $6 million on a first round tender. That's not nothing.

If I'm GB I probably put the 2nd round tender on him. That's gonna be about $4 million and I doubt anyone is willing to surrender a 2 for him.

That said, lets say you can get him to agree to a tender of, say, 3/$27 million. That's 2 years, $23 million in 'new' money over his RFA tender. Would he be worth that contract and a 2nd round pick? GB wouldn't match it.

My money says no. I think that's too rich when the draft compensation included. I'd consider the 3rd, but not the 2nd if I'm only getting a 3 year deal from him.

But if you could get him on a 4 year, $36 million deal....I'd think pretty hard about that one. Okorafor re-signed with Pittsburgh for 3/$30 million but only 1 year/$10 million in guarantees. Maybe he bites on more term if you offer more guaranteed money? 4/$40 million w/ $25 million in guarantees?

Because that's a STEAL if he's an above average LT, especially if he's a strength in pass pro.

They'd have to probably band aid it for a year or so because I'm not sure they'd wanna plop a guy like that in day one at LT.

Here's the thing though. With as much as LT's cost, yeah, if you can get a cheap guy playing above his level there it's such a big ass value play it's worth it.

But the question is, would it be easier to "find" a guy that can play above his level at say RG or LG or ILB or S vs LT?

It's such a premium spot, there's a reason they make what they make and get drafted where they do. There's just not very many people on earth that can do what is asked that they do.

Yeah, I don't particularly care about the guy being an elite run blocker. Any time we run the ball it's a play where Mahomes doesn't have the ball so lets limit that anyway.

But as DJ has said, they should have looked around at a guy this last year in the 2nd/3rd/4th round with those traits knowing this was gonna go this way with OBJ and his contract. It's past time for that so no sense in discussing I guess, so it is what it is.

After looking at the history of the guys taken around where we pick...I just don't care for sitting there and waiting on one of those types of prospects.

At any rate, thanks for the thoughtful discussion on my little pet project trade prospect.

I get that, I really do. I just don't really agree.

I guess primarily because I don't care HOW they replace OBJ, as long as they DO.

I'm really not looking forward to watching Von Miller on OBJ for 60 snaps this week.

I dont' think they'll replace him with a guy that's a borderline LT more RT or guard though.

That's my thing with this. Andy and Co just don't seem like they want to take that kind of guy at LT seeing as they had a chance to do it just a year ago and chose to trade for OBJ.

They're gonna need another DE this draft too.

I just can't see going into the draft with WR/LT/DE being the needs as those are just some damn big holes to fill and not really spots you can or want to fill in the places we will be picking.

With the ammo of picks we have, gotta think they'll be aggressive and go after the guys they like.

Especially since you guys won't let me trade any of said picks
