And since we're on the topic of Moose..

Overall, young players need time in the big leagues to settle. That's all I'm saying.

Feel free to quote up my dumbass takes in response, I'm sure I have an equal number.

Escobar has always sucked so not sure why you brought him up. Cain was much better than I or anyone expected, true. As for Moose and Hoz, both struggled early but we were going to ultimately win or lose with them. I can't say that for Cuthbert or Dozier.

Again, what’s the end game?

77 wins doesn’t get you the first or second pick in the draft and the Royals likely finish 4th or 5th in the division.

MLB is set up for tanking under the current CBA.

Trying to win while rebuilding is a fool’s errand.

I guess?

Personally, I’d rather see a full blown out rebuild with a chance to improve TV revenues through a new deal in 2020, then go on a SF Giants like tear like they did 2010-2014, from the Royals 2021-2025.

Moose’s deal would have been worth $12 million if he would agree to not watch porn.

Beyond that, I don't get the handwringing about signing Moose and Duda. Mondesi is definitely not ready for the show. I'd guess same is said for Dozier, and is Cuthbert seriously considered as a potential long term starter for any major league team beyond the Reds?
Yep. All we've been reading for several months is how depleted the Royals farm system is, and how they don't have ANY prospects in the top 100. It's been pretty goddamn bleak. Now GMDM has signed three decent players for next to nothing, and one of them is a hometown favorite. I'm fine with it. I would have liked to see Hunter Dozier get some MLB at bats, but let's face it: he hasn't really done anything in the minor leagues. Let him dominate at AAA for a couple of months and WIN a spot in the major leagues.

I realize the Royals aren't going to win anything this year or for the next several years. I'm fine with them making moves to be a decent team instead of a historically bad team.

I agree the farm system needs to be built up, but the opposite argument is that tanking is actually more difficult now because a third of the league is doing it. No joke. The Rays, Tigers, White Sox, A's, Phillies, Braves, Pirates, Reds, Marlins, the Padres aren't a playoff team. The Orioles and Jays have question marks. Then you take the other teams and some of them will probably underperform expectations. You could tank your team and still end up with a double digit draft pick.

I've argued the whole time that in no way is the farm system great, but Soler, Mondesi and Cuthbert are all legit potential talents who have not been developed properly because the team was trying to win games at all costs, and have lost the prospect label because of it. You eventually have to run these guys out there and let them sink or swim.

If any one of those guys was sitting in AAA this whole time everyone would be excited to see what they could do.
