It makes sense long term maybe even more than it does now. It definitely allows more freedom in the 2019 draft. I mean, seriously. Berry and Thomas as starting safeties for the next 2 or 3 years, assuming we (finally) get some injury luck? At that point we're maybe one starting cornerback from being a team with legitimate super bowl potential for years. It's a legitimate window of opportunity.

The worst thing that can happen for us, in my humble opinion, is going into the draft next year (or any other...) with glaring needs. This is a chance to fix a hole for the forseeable future with a known quantity, much less a pro bowl known quantity. That is most definitely worth giving up some future draft value.

'course all this is probably moot. Would we really do this?

The Seahawks just drafted a RB in the first round and Chris Carson did pretty well against the Cowboys so they really don't need a high priced RB. What they really need is WR help (and a new O coordinator).

The problem with that is just the time.

Ideally, you want Thomas in here ASAP to get accustom to the system and such.

Plus, the Chiefs are 3-0 right now and the Chargers are 1-2, but it's not near over yet.

The Chiefs would be wise to push hard and get the 1 seed if at all possible

Count me in for NOT bundling high draft picks for Earl. If there's any way to do this that doesn't include giving up more high picks, fine. Otherwise, stay with the long game, keep getting younger and build from there.

Either way, I don't see how the Chiefs can afford Earl without renegotiating existing contracts.
