We are paying him too much to use him part time, but looking at Carlos's splits, he should probably split time with a 1B that hits Right Hand pitching.

I think Dozier has to play RF (and subs with Franchy), while Gutierrez is the everyday 3B and Santana is the everyday 1B. Whit in LF, Dozier in RF and hope like hell you can get some production out of Taylor in CF

2019 was probably his best all-around season. The shortened ST last year probably messed with him a lot (switch hitters typically need more time to gear up their swings).

Patience and power tend to age well. This is exactly the type of player we’ve all been begging the Royals to have more of, so I’m not gonna throw stones now that they’ve finally done it.

A little more info on the contract.

The Royals have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent first baseman Carlos Santana, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports (via Twitter). The contract is worth $17.5MM in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan (Twitter link), with another $1MM available in incentives. The majority of the money will come in 2022, as the New York Post’s Joel Sherman reports that Santana will earn $7MM in 2021 and then $10.5MM in the second year of the deal. Santana is represented by Octagon’s Ulises Cabrera and Brian Mejia.

Kansas City is very familiar with Santana over his years in Cleveland, and Santana has more career home runs (31) and RBI (93) against the Royals than any other opponent over his 11 Major League seasons.

With the addition of Santana and the club having non-tendered third baseman Maikel Franco last week, it appears that infielder/outfielder Hunter Dozier will likely move back to third base and clear the way for Santana to be the club’s everyday first baseman.

I love this move. But, I was hoping to see Witt Jr mid year of 2021. I hope finding a place for Dozier to play (3rd) doesn't block him.
