Obviously they have the QB and they got them very different ways.
Aikman BTW wasn't a true "franchise QB". You'd probably be stunned if you looked at his stats in his SB years. Again...not saying you should never take a QB round 1. I'm just talking about this year and the players available. |

What, other than skin color, does Geno Smith have in common with Vince Young? Please share.

Sorry if Q.
An NFL source tells the Arizona Republic that the Cardinals are "exploring the possibility" of trading for Alex Smith. Per the source, "no deal is in place." That means the Cardinals are not the team previously reported to have a deal effectively done with the Niners. The team was likely the Chiefs, but that doesn't mean San Francisco will stop shopping Smith ahead of the league's new year on March 12. By pitting teams against each other, they can maximize the haul they'll get for their backup quarterback. |

Who gives a shit how anyone gets a QB, if Geno takes KC on a 12 year run of 10 playoff appearances, 2 SB wins and another 2 SB appearances, is it really going to be discussed how big of a risk they took when they drafted him? |

He had lesser arm strength. He was a run-first, throw second QB who ran a very simplified offense and was EXTREMELY raw as a passer. He also had a really funky throwing motion. He was an instinctive player who had tremendous natural ability, not a gym/film rat who studied obsessively. Vince Young and Geno Smith are both black QBs who ran a shade under 4.6 and throw righthanded. Other than that, there are no similarities in their game, experience, playing style, or strengths.

I can live with a comparison to Alex Smith (though Geno played in a pass heavy spread/Air Raid, while Alex Smith's Utah attack was an Urban Meyer, heavily run-based offense).
Aaron Rodgers and Sam Bradford are also good comparisons. All are pass-first guys with good mobility and plus accuracy.

Report: Cardinals exploring trade for 49ers' Alex Smith
An NFL source told Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic that the Cardinals are exploring a trade for Smith. Arizona reportedly is impressed by the veteran passer's "experience, intelligence and talents," according to the source. Smith's early career struggles are reportedly seen by the team as a product of coaching overhaul and a one-time merry-go-round of offensive schemes in San Francisco.
